So I was picking up supplies at my local B&M and was perusing the tins. Couple things caught my eye but nothing that was necessarily on my list to try. Had a few in my hand but ultimately put them back and headed over to the bulk area. 1Q is a favorite of mine and most threads about it also talk about RLP6 so I grabbed a few ounces of that for comparison (I will do that write up once I have had a few bowls of it).
I figured I would grab something else and English and/or Oriental varieties have piqued my interest. I see on one label "English Oriental Supreme" (EOS from here on) and my decision was made.
I noted 1Q is high on my list but lately I have been in love with Plum Pudding and was surprised how much I like John Cotton #1. I have no idea what an English or an Oriental should taste like but the John Cotton gave me an idea of what an English is like so I was intrigued by what the Oriental would bring in to this one.
Not much tin/pouch note on the EOS for me. A bit of smoke from the latakia but nothing else really jumping out. I was kind of surprised and wondering if maybe the batch was stale or something.
Packed easy and took the charring light well almost staying lit through the initial tamping. From there on it burned like a charm with few relights.
Right from the get go I couldn't get enough of this stuff. It is not strong in anyway and lots of reviews talk about it being a good gateway to english blends especially from those who are aromatic smokers. I can definitely see why. It is brimming with all sorts of flavors with a hint of latakia smoke there. It is not in your face in anyway and no one particular aspect dominates. It lets each element sit on its own and not get in each others way. Good natural sweetness to it and then there is this other flavor to it that I can't put my finger on and I assume is the orientals. It is a herbal/floral note but don't think sweet rose type floral. It is almost a musty incense type note in the best way possible.
Flavor stayed pretty consistent through the bowl but the herbal/floral notes picked up towards the end and the sweetness seemed to intensify.
It appears that I have a lot of blends shooting up the list in my rotation lately but this one has extra potential as an all day smoke. Its also a bonus that it is available in bulk.
Beard note is a nice concentration of the flavors that stayed with me for quite some time.

I haven't smoked any of this in quite a while. It's now on my list for this evening.

Andy, get yourself a tin of Plum Pudding Special Reserve...you will thank me later....it is that good...imagine the PP but about 10X the flavor and smoothness. Bet you'll love it!
