Once more I find myself with only my dogs, and my pipes for company. The better half has chosen to spend a long weekend at her oldest sisters to help prep for giant gathering of women who will, I'm sure, discuss things far above the understanding of any simpleminded husband. Vast amounts of money, that they swear they don't have, will change hands for items that they don't need, and a week from now my wife, and most likely all of her sisters, will be hauling loads of similar, older items to the Goodwill, to make room for the new. This makes my head spin a bit, so I try not to dwell on it... Instead I'll spend this cool, overcast weekend teaching my pups to better understand English, as I learn to better understand and speak dog. My shiba can say hey you, and hey Herb, and water well enough, but so far the beagle only says "ruff", but I know what he means. Otherwise I'll stay busy cooking, keeping one eye on The Patch, and I might even dust the wall unit that houses half my pipe collection, then ream and deep clean a few pipes...there's always something to do.

It is good to speak Dog. Enjoy what sounds to be an almost perfect weekend.

I am in a similar boat Herb, the wife is out of town, I have to do some weed wrangling and cleaning the house today.
I cannot clean the garage out without her here because she has so much junk, some headed to Goodwill, some to the consignment shop.

Enjoy your solitude and your dogs, Herb! Cook something good for your wife's triumphant return!

Poor guy spent a couple days without his girl and now he can't even figure his way around.

I'd rather think of it as a system of spring fever, or at worst, early onset Oldtimers.

Herb,
Hopefully you can enjoy the solitude more this time around and maybe get some reading and things done that are harder to get done in blocks, otherwise. Of course, we're always here to chat.

Thanks Charlie, I love that old tune, but now there's tears in my coffee. The part about his Mom and Dad always brings my own parents to mind. Great stuff, tears aside, thanks for the memory's.

Heck, Herb… you put the title of the song in your post title! Great song for sure..😉
I really miss my wife when gone, not as a Linus like security blanket. Just because she is a pretty darn good friend, soulmate, and companion.
When I am not looking out for my best interests, she certainly does.
I feel bad for those that have never experienced, that… all four of my brothers had broken marriages, two went on to get great wives, but me and the missus crossed the 40 year mark, to quote Waylon, “she puts up with my Mickey Mouse ways”.
And I overlook a few things, it is all good though.

My wife a while ago went and spent a week with my Daughter in Mandeville, it was the longest week in my married life. I’m not gonna do good if I lose her, that I know!

I guess that's the upside to being a lifelong bachelor.
