I don't know, Pete, from those pics I'd still call it a billiard, I think; just a not strictly classic billiard.
Good call on the proportions. I like the slight bend, too.

Probably. I can never remember exactly what that means.

Probably. I can never remember exactly what that means. I think it means anything not classic English shaping. Hahaha.

Nothing like a good Danish in the morning. Yeah, I know— a cheesy remark.

Adding another well done comment. Spotted the sand pits, nothing to do with smokeability IMO.
Fine job, from one who has more freehands than standard shapes

I dig it. It looks rather Upshall. Thanks! Flattered by the Upshall reference. A few of your pipes have looked Upshallish to me. It's the proportions, I think.

I never tried to make them "Upshallish". Perhaps subconscious inspiration?

Seems likely. We make what we find attractive (as best we can).

Been working on #41 the past couple days. On Monday, I drilled and rough cut the block. Tuesday afternoon, I spent a couple hours shaping the stummel. It's starting to look like something. Hopefully this afternoon, I'll get back to do some refining. Gotta thin that shank down and probably taper it. Then comes a lot of finish sanding. Since I used a plateaux block, there's a good chance of some decent grain. If not, I can always do some rusticating. As always, thanks for looking!

Yesterday was final sanding and staining day. After sanding I applied a few coats of the base stain. It looks very dark, but there's more work. I sanded most of the base off. Showing some interesting grain. Then, applied a contrast stain. Time for polishing and stem bending. That'll be in the next post.
