Always a favorite ... saw the full capability at Volk Field, WI back in the late 80's. When they fly by and open full guns, it sounds like a giant fart. Lol

The thing is a beast!
It is crazy that in the past some wanted to defund the A10, but the people that fly them do not.
Kickbacks and lobbying costs, I presume.

Lol I remember when that wing was active at Volk. I never heard the gun but they buzzed me a couple of times when I was working. I imagine the machines were a good target. Here in Green Valley, AZ we have them flying over us at altitude from Davis-Monthan constantly.

I was surprised when they were talking about retiring them. Why retire perfection? Seems like they would be very useful in Ukraine right now.

Machine gun with wings, what's not to like? Selfridge ANG is just a few miles up the road. We see them quite often.

I saw on the local news a couple of weeks ago that Uncle Sugar is upgrading the fleet to fly for many more years.

Forty mile convoys would be like a shooting gallery.

Saw that a few months ago. Kind of a classic example of form following function.

Too heavy, built around a cannon, Stingers do the job without the expense, I like em, but realistically they are passé!

I thought Stingers are ground-to-air?

Can stingers be used on ground targets? They can, to an extent. The Stinger missiles fired from the Avenger platform can fire onto a ground target if the signature is large enough and the operator can get the seeker heads to solidly lock onto it. Various ADATS type missile platforms are also capable of engaging both air and ground targets. Many tanks have been knocked out with Stingers!

Was a cool plane, but the AC-130 gunships, F-35, predator drones and glide bombing at a distance are the future of air warfare as it moves into pilotless setups. The AC-130 can be really heavily armed and spray out ASM bombs from distance and also armed with 20 and 30mm cannons and heavy machine gun fire with armor piercing capability. The spooky stuff now is pilotless and so high up nothing can see them.

Talked to a buddy who’s still in the game, my wife’s cousin, Bob it’s. Long distance now, scary..

I wonder if AI can create a super-sonic unmanned fighter jet capable of micro-second reactions and decisions and chess-like tactics. Maybe not yet, but soon?

I have heard that it's being worked on..It would do things that a pilot can't.
