I smoked Engine 99, all day long, in my 804, and 606 Savinellis, and I'm not at all unhappy about it!

Today was the day I picked for a little experiment. I started out with Capstan Gold flake, but got nostalgic when I was thinking about the ounce of Mixture 79 that I ordered when I placed my last tobacco order out of curiosity. I occasionally smoked 79 around 1984. I could get it as well many others at the grocery store for rather reasonable prices so it played a role in my early pipe smoking.
I didn't have a "favorite" tobacco back then until I found a tobacco that I can't remember the name of at Perry Drugs. After that, it was mostly what I smoked until moving on to trying all of the Lane rebranded options at the tobacconist, which heralded the end of my pipe smoking for some time. But prior, I would buy what was available and I wanted to try them all.
So I loaded up a bowl of the current iteration of 79 and I am smoking it now. I don't specifically remember the flavor/smoking experience back in the early '80s, but there have definitely been moments while smoking this that I have been transported back to those days, which is always fun and sad at the same time.

Nostalgia is bittersweet. Glad you're still able to enjoy 79, though.

Popped a tin of 5 year old Marlin Flake and loaded it in a Stanwell Black Diamond 404.
When I first started collecting tobacco I thought to myself "it'll take forever to have a cellar full of "aged" tobacco." It doesn't seem like it was very long ago. Everything I bought in the beginning is now around 5 years old. Thanks to some people here and from PSD, I have some that's 15+.
Time flies. Tobacco is good. Stanwell needs to make more colors in the 404 shape.
Have a great day.

I didn't cellar very much my first couple years smoking with no budget for it. Once I started cellaring a bit more sometime in 2015, I really hit a lick with a few blends in 2016. I'll have some 2016 stuff til the 15 year mark.

Started the day with Haunted Bookshop in the Thursday cob and coffee. Might try to get some work done in the yard today, depending on how wet things are.

Zach I wouldn't say "well," but I'm still kicking. I'm glad I put away a lot of my favorites when I had the spare funds a few years ago. I cant remember what I threw in the car to smoke on my way home, but I'm ready for it. I'm about 15 minutes away

It’s my day off on a sunny 56 degree day in the Peoples Republic of NJ. Waiting for Safelite to come and replace the windshield on my 2018 Camaro SS. Savoring my first ever bowl of Chelsea Morning in a Savinelli Porto Cervo 122 bent pot. Where in NJ are you?

Update: I didn't throw any tobacco in the car this morning. It was a disappointing ride home. I got to the house and opened one of my tobacco drawers, closed my eyes and reached in. My hand landed on GH Brown Irish X. I sliced a few coins, twisted them a little and stuffed em in my Grabow Freehand (my first briar). Harnessed the pup and down the road we went. It smoked wonderfully with no dry time at all.
Digging through the cellar after I shower. I need a change up.
