Got a 345$ hit on my credit card this morning, Diamond Tool Company, I don’t do any business in Florida other than buying cigars. So for your own sake, check your cards, canceled the card. Hope that doesn’t happen to you!

You won’t get charged for that if you report it ASAP. My main C/C has been hit, but they were on it in seconds. Asked me if I recognized the charge and when I didn’t they stopped the card and issued me a new one. We seem surrounded by crooks and thieves.

No problem with my cards. But I have had that very thing happen to me in the past. My card company notified me after denying the charge and I changed my card number.

I get notifications of legitimate purchases all the time on mine and I'd rather go through the 2 seconds to verify it than have them be not as vigilant. The one time in recent memory one slipped through I had a new card overnighted to me and my account closed and monitored at an increased level for 30 days. No stress, no fuss, no muss.

Why do your posts have Ron’s avatar?

Why do your posts have Ron’s avatar? It's my homage to him for being him. Unless he owns the rights to the picture? Doubtful though.

Brad, sorry that happened. Credit Card fraud is always upsetting.
I have been plagued for years by conmen in Florida submitting bogus drafts on my business account. They have the name right, the account number right, the address wrong and of course there is no authorized signature. My bank never catches it. No bank will these days. They do not review checks and drafts before paying any more. All clearing is electronic. They have paid out thousands of dollars. We have recovered all but a coupe of hundred which slipped by me the end of last year when I was busy and did not discover it until February. Too late. If the bank is notified within a week they can usually reverse the electronic transfer. More than that and it gets harder. I had to close the account and re-open which is not easy these days. Bank is closed to the public. Takes quite a while to get access.
Check your bank statements weekly if not sooner.

Whether one “owns” rights to a picture or not, an avatar does seem rather personal. (I certainly “own” mine!) Appropriating it in some kind of doubtful “homage” seems kinda smarmy. But that’s just me.

Plenty of other ways out there too. Cheers, mate!

I know the whole mutual enmity thing goes a long way back and is above my pay grade. But… just a word: If Ron DID create that image, and he has said he has some abilities in that regard, your use of it without his permission is a violation of de facto copyright. It does NOT have to be registered. Just sayin’…
(Most sites are very chary of anything that even smells like a possible copyright infringement.)

And if that's the case, that's the case....however, I have yet to see proof of anything, so until then...fair game.

not coment either way, just glad I have no idea how to use a camera, much less stick a picture of widdle old me in that "avatar" box. Methinks a no-longer here regular "Grumps" might have a pic of me somewhere in his files.
Ed Duncan, Batavia, NY more comfy & glad to be low-tech

I didn't create it, I've just been using it for 10 years or so. He's welcome to it if it gives him joy. I do think it's silly though.

1. I hope the CC card company backs you up. Credit card fraud is terrible.
2. WTH did I miss?

I've had my debit card hacked multiple times. Bank has always taken care of it. However, I started using essentially "burner" cards for a lot of purchases. I can set a dollar limit per transaction, or per month, or limit them to a single use. Haven't had a problem, since.

I think I might stop using my debit card and use the virtual Revolut card that I have on the app. Prob much safer that way. The virtual card changes its number after each transaction. It's more of a pain, but certainly more secure.

Came home from a trip to Texas years back and had $25000 charged on my Amex card. Took 3 months but they worked it out and I didn’t have to pay anything. Somehow I bought a living room set and 4 cell phones in Kentucky.

Somehow I bought a living room set and 4 cell phones in Kentucky. I like Amex, when you call them you get prompt service and no endless menus to scroll through on the phone designed to wear you out, and if your card has a corrupted chip, they expedite a card. You call Chase to get a card replaced, it can take a couple weeks. Chase bank is my holding tank to pay my Amex card that everything goes on....should have done it years ago.
