Nothing lights a bowl quite like a wooden match for me.

Chose butane lighter because that's what I use most often these days but I've also gone years with only using wooden matches and keep several boxes around for when I make the switch again. Bic lighters.

When the wind is calm, a wooden match. Otherwise I typically use my Zippo with a pipe insert.

I prefer matches when I'm just lounging on the porch or in the yard. The majority of my pipes are smoked when I'm walking the dog or driving and a Bic is just easier.

Ever since Ronv69 turned me towards the Thunderbird insert for my Zippo, I've been using it and only grabbing a Bic when I don't feel like reaching in my pocket. I didn't feature it in my photos, but every seat in the Stag & Sickle (a total of 6) and the pool table is set up with its own cell phone charging cable (I got a bunch of 3-in-1's, good for USB-C, USB-mini, and Apple), ashtray, pipe tool, lighter, pipe cleaners, and cigar cutter. If I'm at work or on my feet, I use the Zippo. If I'm sitting or throwing darts, it's a Bic. FWIW, the Thunderbird insert Ron recommended really is a game-changer. It's not windproof, but it does a darned fine job. I could not be more pleased with mine.

9/10 times it's a wooden match. If I'm out and about, I'd bring a lighter, but that's a very rare occasion for me.

I like the match, I am able to light the tobacco more precisely, and the temperature is far below what butane and lighter fluid produce. Specifically, I like the cactus quill Maya matches, as after you light your pipe, what is left to drop on the ground is pretty much invisible and will decompose quicker than a wooden match stick.
A Zippo in the wind, I always have a bic for backup.

Meanwhile I almost always use a Zippo (regular fuel version) with a pipe insert. The sacred fire intrigues me, but I mostly smoke on my commute, and it might be awkward to bring it in the car.

I always liked Mexican matches. They were easier to light and burned better. They used to be everywhere but I haven't seen them in years.

I have a number of IM Corona Pipemasters that I use exclusively. I have a couple of Old Boys as well but the Pipemasters hold more fuel and they have a longer tamper. So far I have had no issues with the electronic ignition. My oldest Pipemaster is around 7 or 8 years old and it still works great.

I always liked Mexican matches. They were easier to light and burned better. They used to be everywhere but I haven't seen them in years. Within a few years ago HEB had them, I created a new account giving me free shipping, so I bought a big box of them at incredibly cheap prices. The shipping had to have costed them more than what I paid for them. A lot of other people in the pipe community jumped on that bandwagon, probably why they no longer offer them online.😉

I voted butane as I use my Old Boy the most often. However, I also really like my Zippo but don’t use it around my wife as she’s hypersensitive to the smell of Zippo fuel.

I mostly use a Jetline Proto cheapo refillable butane pipe lighter. I occasionally use matches as well and would more often if I didn't keep running into matches that smell rather harsh lately. I have a "nice" butane lighter, a Peterson, one of the ones that is similar to an Old Boy and it's a great lighter, but the size of the filler on the bottom is just slightly smaller than any other lighter I have had and it's impossible to re-fill it with butane without it spraying out around the filler about equal to going into the lighter, which annoys me, so I don't use it often.

Peterson pipe lighter. Made in Japan. Quality through and through. Totally reliable, exceptionally well-made and holds more butane than an IMS Corona Old Boy. For outside in wind a Zippo pipe lighter.

If you're asking what we light up our pipes with, for me it's usually a Bic or match... same for cigars (but sometimes w/butane). Strong butane torch flames for neither.
