finally decided to put in my lousy .02 worth this thread. Yrs back had neighbor who was purty good carpenter. Made me couple dowels out of a more or less standard length when new. Have 4 at 1/2" wide, for my magnums, 3 at 3/4" wide. All 3" long, all made via hacksaw. Still have 'em all + couple "nails" here/ there. How many yrs ago? I know around '62, anybody's guess which century. Yeah, did see pics of that fella who made really nice tamps. first name I think is "Art". Hawaii looking last name. have several round tip Sheffield pipe knives to get rid of any dottle & scape the sides if/when decide to. Ed Duncan, Batavia, NY olde age jokes r me! Sounds like a complete set. Tampers haven't really caught my interest much, thankfully. I've got 3 or 4 of them lying around, none of them very fancy or unique. Handful of Czech tools. In general, I just use the ones on my lighters. Not the most ergonomic in use, but it makes for one less thing to keep up with.

I keep my very first Czech tool in the car. ... I'm somewhere between impressed and amazed you still have it. My first Czech tools I got so long ago that they were stamped "Made in Czechoslovakia" (rather than the current "Made in Czech Republic"), but they all vanished many years ago, even before my youth did.

There's an 1890s saloon match holder here by the computer; it holds 4 metal golf-T tampers, 1 aluminum pipe nail, 3 Chech tools, and nail-clippers. I reach for the simple pipe nail the most. The sunglass holder in my pick-up also holds a pipe nail. Fancy tampers, and pocketknives are scattered throughout the house, in pipe boxes and tobacco jars.
