¡Felíz Cinco de Mayo, cabrones! [My Spanish is a little rusty. That IS a term of affection, no?]

uhh... think of cabrón as the F word in English. Where you can say "Happy Cinco, Fu****s!" which is what you've said. LOL Like the F word has lost it's meaning and can mean anything, same applies. It can be used pejoratively, or as a term of endearment.
I like that F*****! I hate that motherf*****! That guy is a ****

The fifth of May, long ago, is the day the Mexican people defeated the French Foreign Legion at the battle of Puebla. The Legion was sent in by Louis Napoleon of France in response to Mexican President Benito Juarez's decision to suspend payment of foreign debts.
It has little meaning here in northern New Mexico. A few gringos, borrachos and others try to make it an excuse for over consuming their favorite beverage and behaving poorly.

Up here, in Michigan, people call it Cinco de Drinko.

¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo anyway! We can celebrate it in honor of our neighbors' sovereignty and a reminder that sometimes we can beat long odds. And since we are pipe smokers and Briar Patch folk, we can overconsume our favorite beverages --a little-- and continue to behave well.

If I were to celebrate everybody's independence day I'd be on a 24x365 binger. I guess that has a certain amount of appeal to it.
