I took the plunge and ordered two 8oz cans of Palmettoa Balkan. Being a big fan of Syrian Latakia, I’m really interested in finding out how well their new process designed to give Cyprian Latakia more Syrian Latakia qualities. My plan is to pop one of the cans when it arrives, try a bowl or two, then jar it up and put it in the cellar for at least a year (maybe sample along the way). C&D ships their blends way too long. In my experience, all their English and Virginia blends need at least a year of age. The initial bowls will give me an idea of how it will age and whether I should try and order some more if it's still available next week. Hopefully, it will be as they made 3,000 8oz cans and I expect many people are holding off on making the plunge until they hear other people's opinion. Speaking of which, Jim posted his review of this blend earlier this evening: www.tobaccoreviews.com/blend/12857/cornell-diehl-palmetto-balkan

I also bought 2 tins. I have never had Syrian Latakia. I enjoy it, but 2 bowls out of a fresh tin.

I'm still considering ordering 2 more tins, which is extremely high praise from me for a Balkan mixture.

I am going to get two more cans if Laudisi brings some to the Show. I think they succeeded in their claim of "some Syrian-like qualities". It isn’t Syrian but it has some subtle smokey wine flavor but most importantly it does not have the typical Cyprian tangy bbq sauce note.
To me, Palmetto Balkan is a cousin to Presbyterian (which I love) but with slightly sharper Orientals.

I'm curious as to what process was used to make the Cyprian taste more like Syrian. The two tastes are significantly different. I'll have to try it out.

Well I put in my order for the Palmetto. Looking forward to trying it out, though most will go in a jar for a bit of aging required for most C&D tobaccos.

I went ahead and ordered 2 more tins of the Palmetto Balkan, and a blind order of Druquer and Sons Red Lion in 200g. It was all the Champagne Velvet's tonight. That explains it.
