I wanted to share a few observations about the System pipes, and am seeking to see if other venerable members have experienced similar outcomes. What I have noticed, so far, is that I can taste the tobacco more, as in better, when I'm using a De Luxe System (or the POTY 21, which is equivalent in terms of briar quality and identical in the sense it uses a chimney as well) than when I am smoking the standard system, which does not include a chimney. The explanation I can propose is that either the briar makes a difference, as the De Luxe series uses (according to Peterson) higher grade briar, or that the little aluminium device extending the tenon makes the difference. It would be also wise not to exclude that, possibly, it is a combination of both which makes the difference. What is your opinion/experience? Please share.

The temperature of the smoke seems ideal with the Deluxe. I have added aluminum tubes to standard System pipes and the smoke has noticeably improved. I don't think that the briar makes much difference.

Interesting observation. I don't yet own a deluxe system, but will have to see if I notice a difference when I do.

I have three of the Deluxe System pipes, all large House and Pub designs. They are without question my best and favorite smokers. I have to discipline myself to avoid making them my only choices. The correct load & tamp produces the most pleasant and rewarding smoke of any other pipe I own, including the Dunhill and the GBD.

I have a 2s Deluxe smooth and, even that one is massive, so I can only imagine what the Pub and House pipes are like!

I’m seeing pipes on offer that are very attractive— and tempting. But then I check the specs. Unless they havce a bore-and-stroke of at least .85x2” I lose interest.
