Yesterday evening I broke out the Everclear, and a pack of pipe cleaners, and went to work on eight pipes from my regular weekly rotation. This used to be a " Sunday thing" with me, but somehow, since I retired, I became lazy about cleaning, and was content to just run a cleaner through each pipe, and return them to the rack. How does this happen? what a dope!... I went through almost a whole pack of cleaners, and they were black as a gravedigger's hat, Dern! It reminded me of the old days, when I used to work through those nasty ebay lots of estate pipes. Anyway, this morning my reward is a fresh clean, dry smoke, and a better outlook on life! Keep em clean, folks Herb.

I clean the piss out of my pipes after only one bowl. I use numerous Fluffy Tapered BJ Long soft cleaners along with BJ Long Tapered Bristle cleaners.
I usually use 4 soft cleaners for the stem and then use those to wipe out the bowl of excess tobacco and ash. I then double over my bristle cleaners and go bank and forth in the shank till the cleaners come out clean. I then use another bristle cleaner for the mortise.
I use Obidisian on all my stems as they are all vulcanite and the Obidsian leaves them nice and shiny. With the regiment I use now I rarely have to go the everclear deep clean route. I despise a dirty pipe as I spend good money on my tobacco and refuse to ruin it because of a dirty pipe. I am a fanatic about a clean pipe. I never smoke a pipe more than once a day and then let it rest a couple of days. How I got so anal about a clean pipe I have no idea. Hell if I drop food on the floor, it gets the ten minute rule. I fear no germs. Yeah I know I am a freak.

At my house, if someone drops food, the dogs are on it before you have a chance to pick it up.

I've yet to do any of this with any of my pipes. Perhaps I should give it a go some time.

I do a cleaner after each smoke and leave it in to absorb moisture. I do a thorough clean with Everclear about every 5 bowls as I start to notice a taste difference after 7 or 8 bowls if I don’t.
