When I first started a pipe around 1997, I was a total grain whore. I had maybe 2 non smooth pipes in my first collection. Eventually I realized I could not smoke grain but it sure was pretty. Back in the day just as the Euro came e out at a lowly .83 to a dollar I bought a number of straight grain pipes from Castello, Radice and the best bang for the buck amount of grain was Viprtati QQQQ. For around 200.00 you could get grain as good as any Castello. Their stems sucked though. The guy who sold them cheap was named Agide.
Today I am all about a great blast and a great stem. Go figure.

What I am smoking today is my favorite. When I was young I leaned towards the wild and crazy freehand. Now that I am older I lean towards the classics, of which Dunhill is renowned. But every once in a while, I just have to take a walk on the wild side.

Poker, billiard, author, prince, pot and freehand are most of what I have.

I like the classic bent pipe, but not too bent. I'm not taking oom Paul.
As for bowl shape, a billiard does the job for me.
I do like pipe bowls with a rusticated rim though.

About 90% of my collection is bent pipes. My favorite shape is the Peterson'as 9BC, of which I have 5 in various grades and finishes. I also like the 9S.

Rustucated Pot, Bent Pot, Dublin, bent Dublin, Prince, Lovat, Devil Anse, Billiard, Calabash, Freehand (thank you Nording) just to name a few. Those are the main ones, and mostly all are rusticated for I love the feel in my hands while smoking. There is nothing wrong with a good cob pipe and I have those as well. The pipe is always going to choose the pipe smoker and that is the truth.
