Started the day with Haunted Bookshop and coffee in the backyard by the smoker. But only after prepping a pork shoulder for smoking. Happy Father's Day!

Made several 10 minute excursions to the deck to smoke the McConnell Scottish Flake I stuffed into this Willmer brandy shortly before lunch. Too hot to smoke. Too hot to move. Official temp 5 minutes ago--99 with heat index of 119. Heat index was 122 at lunch time--so it is cooling off a bit. I am ready for fall and football season.... Just went through my cellar yesterday and pulled a tin of McConnell Scottish Flake out I may pop it today maybe still deciding what to have a bowl of this morning.

Frog Morton Cellar, in a G. Vecchio egg. Only one or two more bowls, and this jar will be history, but it was good while it lasted.

Will MM ever be offering that cob up for sale? I suppose they could do a variation of it at any point and offer it, but I was told they made some of these while there was a part shortage so it got a random blue acrylic stem, a silver aluminum band of sorts, on a Diplomat polished bowl. So, I just call it the "showcob" because they made them for the NASPC show last year with what they had.
Love the stem!

Somewhere around 2019 they changed the tin color. I hope they didn't change the tobacco. I say this because I notice Jim Inks has re-reviewed some of the blends by K&K (like Wessex Brigade Campaign Dark Flake) and Astley's No.44--and decided the tobacco formula is not the same. Anyway--I will attach a pic. The older reddish tin on the left, the newer brownish tin on the right. I have not popped any of the newer tins yet, but still have a large enough pile of the older ones in my cellar to see me through....

I use that pipe during football season. I fill it full of flake, and puff on it during game delays, half time, etc. Usually a bowl of flake in this pipe will see me through a day of college football. It served me well during the unbearable heat yesterday as well....

And, if it did, that it's very comparable. Scottish Flake remains among my Top 3, it's just an incredibly good tobacco! I have spent a lot of time trying to gather about 2 dozen tins over a 2 year period and that's about all I could get.
