Courier services have become horrible in keeping their delivery times. I have used USPS Priority Mail Express International 3 times and every time, they have exceeded their 3-5 business days in an amazing way. Most notable is 1 order took 9 business days to get into Canada and another, it left on 15 May and entered the country on 2 June. It cost me $98 for the first one (pipe rack) and $45 for the second (pipe). I have also used UPS UPS Worldwide Expedited (2 business days), it cost me a whooping $130 and it took 5 business days to make it. Despite being correctly labeled by the retailer ('Next Day Air' stickers all over the parcel), it still took 5 calendar days for the parcel to enter Canada. Only DHL has managed to keep decent delivery times. I have grown tired of this generalized culture and mentality of 'I-don't-care' mediocrity that has come to define business dealings. Mostly, I have grown tired of always having to pick up the phone, or send out emails, and end up fighting with people displaying behaviours bordering on schizophrenia who give 10 different versions, just to make sure you will prefer to give up rather than end up losing your sanity. Then, there are retailers hiding behind the word 'international' and refusing to take any accountability for the poor service provided by their shipping partners. When it becomes more frustrating than fun, it's time to carry on to something else. I have concluded that my best course of action is to stop ordering anything online and handing out my hard earned money to incompetent organizations. Call it a boycott, if you will. I will dedicate my purchases to B & M during our travels, and that will be the extent of it.

I can empathize. We're getting that end of the stick more and more often.* There are geopolitical-economic complexities I won't discuss and tobacco products have their own societal baggage. But I empathize with the end result.
*Having labored my way partially through school with--and later joining management in--a major international carrier, it's doubly frustrating to me to see such performance. At least I'm getting a return on my company stock, tho, amirite?

I am pretty impressed with DHL on international shipments, tobacco from Venezuela is always a process, but that is customs. DHL is very good at updating the tracking, they have always been the best for me.

I order hobby train parts from Japan and I always use DHL. Service is great. Package always arrives 2-3 days from ship date. Not cheap, and I am on the west coast, but still I think they are clearly the best. But they only carry internationally.

Maybe a decade ago I bought a pipe from England. It took 6 weeks to get to me and I was done. I have never ordered from outside the USA ever again and I have no plans on changing that position. If I can't find what I want from inside the U.S then I was not meant to own the pipe or tobacco.
I have watched people buy a lot of stuff from Esterval and I haven't seen many complaints. I had no use for him as my cellar was complete years ago. I did use Esterval when he was on ebay and he was selling high grade hand made Winslow pipes. I bought a few and had no issues time wise as it only took a few days. This was back in like 2003-2004 maybe and when I had ordered my pipe from England I expected the same type of service. 6 weeks compared to a few days, that was not even close.

I went to visit a cousin of my dad's in Portland in the 1990's, they never had kids, so her husband was the kid. He had 30-40 years of construction in a full basement of their Victorian home, it was mind blowing and so much thought went into the construction, cities, sidings, railyard, roundhouses, etc... that is a pretty cool hobby.

If I were a resident of the US, I wouldn't need to order anything pipes & tobacco related outside the country.

I've gotta say that delivery in the UK is still excellent - even from the private distributors that are popping up everywhere (normally for Amazon parcels). Sorry to hear it's not the same for everyone though.

Today I went to the post office and needed a card delivered by Wednesday. 2 day shipping was 8.95 but it wouldn't get to the destination until Thursday. *head scratching* the last time I checked, Monday to Thursday is 4 days, not 2.
$26.95 later, it'll be tomorrow, "guarunteed."
Oh well, they got me!

Sorry to hear it's not the same for everyone though. When I used to order in the UK, I would specify the International Tracked, which doesn't involve a signature (the signature required could take up to 12 weeks!!!). I usually received the parcel within 6-7 business days. That's awesome service! Royal Mail is great since it was privatized.

It's something important, for someone important. It just sucks. I probably could have sent it in normal mail, or plain priority and it would have been there Wednesday, but I couldn't chance it.

I just use the less expensive option and it gets to me in about the same amount of time or two days behind the higher priced services. I do order from Snuscentral and it gets to me way faster than Smokingpipes.com go figure.

Zarnicky having same problem with USPS. Company in US very good. They sending pipes etc quickly but it taking too long to getting to Canada. Tracking say "Not in system yet". Once in Canadian customs, it clears quickly. Zarnicky liking US pipe tobacco better than Canadian. I only buying 4 ounces at time. I paying duty if buying more than 4 oz. Zarnicky impatient. People saying "Anichka hang in there", but Zarnicky no like hanging. Tobacco eventually getting here. Then I puffing happily.

I found out that the USPS priority 2 day is meaningless.
You get to pay more for that service though.

I think with priority mail it’s more we will try to get it their in 2 days versus a guarantee. I’ve had good luck with fed ex as far as receiving things they always seem to deliver a day or two ahead of the estimated arrival. For mailing I mostly use usps as the flat rate boxes are a god send.

Priority is 3 day, and that has always worked right for me. In California if from and to locations are both in State First Class always goes Priority arriving in 3 days, sometimes 2. I just never have problems with USPS. Of course if you order something on a weekend all you get is label creaded not yet in system until first business day when its picked up. But then it takes another business day to get projected delivery date posted. I'm glad the tracking breaks it down that way. The only carrier I've ever had problems with is FedEx. For some reason my boxes take a long term vacation in their Sparks distribution center.

100% refund if not delivered by the date and time on the receipt. Thanks USPS.

Still not delivered. Tracking hasn't even updated since yesterday. Can't put in a claim because it had to be between 2 and 30 days... wtf....
This is my biggest fail with the post office to date.
