Seems Mr. Blandings is still cashing in his entire cellar on that site. Seems he's sold 50-100 tins at well over $5k...
I see he's now listing tins of the newly released C&D Anthology. I get selling the real aged tins and making a pretty penny but that's just purely scalping at the point that you're buying brand new tin releases to auction.
And he's really unloading it. 95%~ of the auctions on the site have only been from him. I found out in Columbus that Mr Blandings (aka Michael) is the founder and owner of TinBids.com

I saw this on another site: “TinBids.com is Michael DiCuccio's baby. He's the Secretary/Treasurer of the NASPC.” Doing some Google-fu it is easy to see that he is selling a boatload of tobaccos, imgur.com/a/Cs7U1BXbut on the website if it shows the sellers username, I cannot find it. I doubt this will move… someone is dreaming, a bag of Peacehaven mirrors this post. tinbids.com/auction/3502/I welcome the site, competition in the marketplace is always good.

Comparison shopping should net Pipestud a huge windfall.

Comparison shopping should net Pipestud a huge windfall. Conversely, seeing some of the prices at auction may dictate the prices going north at PS consignments. Selling to PS, you pay the shipping costs (to get it to Texas), and a 35% consignment fee. The consignment fee at TB is under 13%, and shipping from your home the buyer pays the freight. I can see where a sellers product going for $200 less at PS might have sellers remorse..( just a guess, I don’t know what Esoterica sells for there). Not everything at TB is going astronomical, I have seen some that never got off the ground. Using both sites can certainly inform a person with an expectation of what the market will demand.

I have heard the same from others, John… a really nice guy.
A lot of work went in putting together that site, and in the current anti-tobacco climate, there are some real unforeseen risks involved. I wish him the best.

I have an empty tin of Kingfisher that I bought when I first started the pipe. I saved the tin due to the cool factor. "Best tin art in the business". I was not impressed with the baccy but it was old and I didn't rehydrate it. I still have one tin of Pelican and I have smoked a few of those over the years. I like the Pelly.

I noticed a lot of reserve auctions. I personally do t like reserves as to me it’s like just start the auction at what the least amount your willing to take for the item and let the auction decide the final price. To each his own.

Saw an interview with DiCuccio (owner of Tinbids) on Virtual Pipe Club. You may think those prices are too high, but according g to him Chinese buyers are paying it. Prices are set by seller, but they're not identified as Tinbids is the intermediary. Incidentally an asking price of $800 may have a lower reserve. Just like on eBay.

Some make sense, with an opening price that reflects recent sales. Some people think they are posting a tin that produces virility 20 years ahead and a cure for baldness. tinbids.com/auction/11873/

It's the most collectible tin there is besides 1980's Balkan Sobranie white or 759.
That same seller (JohnNigh22) is selling 5 more Christmas Cheer tins from 2005-2009 range for $100 per tin, which is also the average going price for these years.

I have 3 tins 2016 and 17. I don't know why they are selling for less than the older ones. They will be older in a few years. I keep meaning to list them, but I just haven't gotten around to it.

2016 and 2017 Christmas Cheer typically go for $80-95. Age makes all the difference as well as rarity. 2010-2015 ranges from $125 now for 2010 up down to about $100 from the 2013-2015 years. 2000-2010 years range from $200 down to $115 in general. If you go older than 2000 it becomes open season. Some will pay $200 immediately for 1999 Christmas Cheer. The next man will pay $250-300. But the first year, some will already pay $400-500. Tubs of 1980's Balkan Sobranie of white original and 759 were at my local B&M last year from a collection for $750-799 a tub. They sold in just a few days. Why anyone would want that old of a Balkan mixture is beyond me while many newer blends will taste far better. I could buy a couple tins of Hermit Tobacco Works Antique Syrian Reserve Pressed Cake (tinned by McClelland and the former makers of Captain Earle's blends before C&D took up their production) for something like $150-165 per tin but it's one of those where the price has started to float up there beyond where I think it may be worth. All that aside, your 2016 Christmas Cheer tins will be going for $150 per tin within a few years. That 1992 Christmas Cheer will be pushing over $1k in something like just five years.

I have 23 tins of Christmas cheer, mostly post 2010, quite a few of other McClellands blends, if I could go back in time I would buy up all the Beacon and Beacon extra. I opened a tin at a pipe club meeting and that tin went up in smoke pretty quick! It really is a sleeper, and worth picking up if you can find it. Beacon Extra is even better, I think it was a single run with extra Perique, if you find one of either one in good condition jump on it if you can find it at a decent price.
Darin was the first to clue me in on Beacon, in hindsight I wish I would have just focused on buying that.

We sold some tobacco as a pipe club on Tinbids, and once you hit $600, the IRS factor kicks in… thanks to the digital world, Uncle Sam wants a piece of the action. No negativity towards Tinbids, they just have to operate within the stated law. Sucks because we are raising funds for a widow in our pipe club.
That does not matter to the bureaucrats… heartless people that they are.

Beacon is/was quite good, but my all time favorite tobacco would be McClelland Tudor Castle. A VaPerOr that included some grade #1 Yenidje leaf. Otherwise, it was bright and red and the red was stoved and air cured McClelland style VAs with Perique. Most of my McClelland smoking years I was still young and broke and did not assume McClelland were nearly out of business, so I was not in a stage of life to be cellaring deeply. Deeply regrettable, but If I am able to come across them, I'd outright give someone $500-600 in cold hard cash for 10 tins of McClelland Tudor Castle, right this very second. I have a couple tins remaining in the cellar. A few Christmas Cheer and 40th Anniversary, and numerous other McClelland in the 50g tins. If I had a time machine and the salary I make currently, I'd go back to 2013-14 and plop down a grand on Christmas Cheer just for my personal cellar. I'd never sell a single tin, even at $200. I'd buy $5k worth of Tudor Castle in a heartbeat.

I just read about this site on the Peterson pipe notes. From the newsletter: “ Also important: I met the dynamic couple operating a new site, Tinbids.com. There were far more vintage tins at the show than I’ve seen before, but there’s a problem Tinbids is seeking to solve for all of us: what to do with those tins that we’re not interested in anymore but don’t have decades of age on them? Pipestud is a great source for selling the old stuff (at least for those with deep pockets), but if you’re like me you’ve got a stack that you’d just like to make back your money. So when I got home earlier this week I put up two tins, just as a test. As of this writing, they both have bids. While the platform isn’t very robust yet, Tinbids works pretty much like eBay. Put up a few photos, a short description and a price (after registering), then wait for bids. They charge a consignment fee of 8 1/2 % (same as eBay) plus .99 for each listing. When you ship the tins, PayPal sends your money. Cool. Maybe it’s too soon for a full-fledged endorsement, but I’m really hoping this works out, for all of us.” tinbids.com/Sheesh, I don't know whether to thank you or cuss ya! After looking at what some of the bags, tins, etc... are bringing I"ve realized that my modest stash is worth way more than I paid for it. Kinda makes me feel guilty for smokin em, being as I usually pull the oldest tin of whatever down, pop it and burn it. :-P

That Krumble cake works out to $3,200.00 per pound.
You could build a decent cellar for that amount.
Wondering if a shill bidder might be in play.
