This shape, Fleur, is what has come to be his signature shape. A truly beautiful pipe. And I have not seen often such nice, tight, straight grain. This is perhaps his nicest, so far.

Flame grain. A pretty pipe.
*Just a bit of picking nits here, because that's not straight or tight grain
We seldom see anymore tight straight grain after the 60's.

Yeah, I did get a bit carried away on the 'tight' part by my enthousiasm. Looking closer, I agree. But I do also see some Straight. I understand this is a good example of Flame Grain (Northern Briars Calabash Prestige, GQ Pipes): And this is my understanding of Straight Grain (Cavicchi CCCCC, SPC): Even in this case, there is some Flame Grain, as well.

A big issue today is straight grain gets highly overused, but that's a good example you posted above. And of course, it's often widely up to interpretation. Flame is generally not nice and parallel and wavers in grain spacing whereas that Cavicchi has perfect straight grain. The Morel's piece is absolutely beautiful though.

I don't know what Morel uses for stain in such an example, but he really manages to highlight all the grain.
