A few months back I bought a Bruyère 4202. When I received it, it wouldn't pass a pipe cleaner. As I had paid significant customs fees I contacted the factory and explained my concern. They quickly replied, asking that I send it for assessment. I never had to go to the post office, they sent the courier to my home. Less than a week after they received it, they told me the pipe had been repaired and they sent it back. While smoking it, I noticed things were not right at all. I examined the mortise more in detail and noticed the airway was too open, and this explained that. I contacted them again and passed on my disappointment. The lady replied she would pass it on to the factory chaps and get back to me. When she did, she announced that, as I was not satisfied, they would replace the pipe. As they didn't have a pipe in stock, there was a Bent Billiard in the works and once it was ready, she would get in touch with me. I received the pipe today. A 4102 rather than a 4202, but, really, I don't care. They added a 5mm silver band that, well, really adds to it. The grain is really nice, the nicest I have seen on a Bruyère! The staff at Dunhill were very courteous. They listen, they stand by their product and they honor their guarantee. I am very satisfied with my replacement pipe.

That is good to hear. It is always good when the company stands behind their work.
It is a nice looking billiard too.

Nice to hear a happy ending to your tale. Well done, Dunhill.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. I would have made them give me a brand new pipe plus the defected one and I would have had a pro fix it. You could have gotten two for the price of one. I bet my system would have worked as they ar paranoid about their name and quality control.
If you don't ask you will never get.

A quality product backed by a quality company. As I recall, their date codes started as part of their 12 month guarantee. I once bought a County 4109. After the first (gentle) smoke, I noticed that a vertical fissure had opened up in the chamber wall. I contacted the B&M retailer who I had ordered it from. He bent over backward working with me, including sending me screenshots of photos of what the distributor had in stock. If I had not had one caught my eye, he would have had the distributor involve the factory. We didn’t need to go that far. And that’s how I ended up with my Ring Grain 4109. 😎
I don’t want to name names, but the B&M owner is quite well known due to his podcast and when you look up the definition of "customer service" in the dictionary, you'll find his picture.

Can't go wrong with a Dunhill. Now, the guarantee is 24 months. That's even better.

I would be willing to bet that George Dibos could fix that pipe. You should inquire about him as he does repairs for museums and some of the top collectors in the world. I think his starting price is over 200.00 but for a Dunhill that is cheap.

And in the end, that is what really matters!
Thanks for sharing, the good news often gets obscured by the bad headlines.

I've had 8 pipefuls, so far, and the pipe smokes wonderfully (like all my other Dunnies). I wish I would have gotten into the brand much earlier, it would have saved me some money but, eh, it's all part of the learning experience that we all go through.

I have 2 estate Dunhills that I've acquired. One is a Canadian, the other I think is a rusticated billiard with a saddle bit.

I don't usually have my terms right. To me they are smooth, or other. I thought everyone knew what I meant when I say the wrong thing, hehe.😀
