Where are all the pipe smokers?

Last time I was in Vegas smoking in casinos and outside the doors, I actually had an older woman ask me if I was smoking crack. Another inquisitively and angrily accosted me and yelled "IS THAT ACTUALLY REAL TOBACCO IN THERE?!?" along with myriad complimentary type comments about how their grandfather's smoked pipes, or "nice pipe dude!" etc. I used to smoke pipes driving around in the car and that tended to get some odd looks and commentary. I smoke constantly around my yard outside and nobody says anything at all about it.

To the original post questioning, there really are not that many pipe smokers at all in general. If you live in an area that has B&M pipe shops you'll occasionally see it more often but it's possible to go for months/years without seeing anyone smoking a pipe out in public these days. You'll need to go to some pipe shops nearby if you've still got any, and meet friends there and possibly join the pipe club if your shop maintains one. If not, go there often enough to sit and smoke in the smoking lounge (if they still have one!) with others. I'm fortunate to have a few long-standing 100+ year old pipe shops in my city but when I go there, don't often find pipe smokers. If folks are smoking there, it's often cigars. Often also a crossover of both pipe and cigar smokers.

You also remind me of a time a group of us pipe smokers from the B&M went to a bar for Guinness and Irish Carbombs and nearly all got thrown out when several of us started snuffing in the middle of the bar. Of course, until they were convinced enough it was tobacco powder.
