Three Friars in the Saturday cob. Went and mowed an older relative's lawn and stopped at the grocery store to pick up a few things.

I got a good (pre-colored) Meer a couple weeks ago, and I've been working my way through some of my older (from the last year and change when I started smoking a pipe) blends to see if their charm and pleasure converts well from briar to meerschaum. Sutliff 526 (Old Professor) and Newminster #17 remain steadfast favorites. Oddly, I've discovered a depth and subtlety to Balkan Sobranie 759 match that I'd only noticed when I first tried it. Here's the new pipe.

My entire house is filled with the aroma of McClelland's Town Topic...the smell of syrup covered pancakes is everywhere. I've just finished a bowl of Our Carter Hall, mixed with a smidgen of Granger, but a wonderful, scented candle on the island counter tells me it's Town Topic. All day long, folks have been telling me how wonderful my pipe smells; I just smile and remember that old favorite in the blue foil bag.

Me too, Ron, lots of maples out there, but nothing I've had has been as good. Russ O. had a Hearth & Home blend called Latham's Circle that was nearly as good, but like so many things I enjoy, it was discontinued.

Daughter and son-in-law are on a trip to Ireland and Scotland for a wedding (yesterday) and delayed honeymoon (1st anniversary is tomorrow). To mark the occasion, I'm Smoking Rattray's Old Gowrie in my Rattray's Old Gowrie Zulu. To accompany, I'm having A Guinness with a bit of Teeling Irish Whiskey.

I just opened a bottle of Egan’s single malt to share in commemorating your daughter’s trip.
