I have given up on the Bingham proprietary filter and Brigham pipes. I recently bought two new Brigham pipes at the same time and could not get the proprietary filters out of the stem after just one smoke. Maybe when Brigham pipes were made in Canada instead of Europe the filters/pipes worked better. ‘Had to send both pipes back after trying all kinds of remedies to remove the filters from the stem. Alcohol, pliers, freezing you name it. I gave up. I have no time or patience for such nonsense. ’Tried contacting Brigham directly. Result? Not even the courtesy of a reply. I will stand clear of of anything with the Brigham name on it from now on. Stick to pipe brands you can trust like Peterson, Savinelli etc. I now tell folks. This a documented issue. Someone even posted a youtube video on the subject.

It happened to me as well, when I bought a couple back in December 2020. I managed to get the filter out with a pair of small vise grips, but almost cracked the shank in the process. I have stayed away from the brand, since then.

Apparently the stuck filter problem is with the cheaper Italian-made Brigham pipes made by Lorenzetti. SmokinPipes is blowing them out for as little as $43. The more expensive Brigham pipes made in France are supposedly a lot better and start in the low $100’s. Buyer beware!! Until all this gets solved I would avoid Brigham pipes altogether.

Are the filters stuck in on purpose or just very difficult to remove?

Difficult if not impossible to remove. More of an issue with the less expensive Italian-made vice the more expensive French Brigham pipes it seems but I can’t say for sure. Brigham Canada will only say, yes they have had problems with certain runs of pipes and they are addressing ’Just giving folks a heads up, no agenda but if I was considering buying a Brigham pipe I’d want to be aware. There is even a youtube video on this subject.

My incident happened with either an Acadian, Heritage or Klondike. So it's also happening with the 'upscaled' ones.

I have only one Brigham. No problem here. (I don’t use the filters.)

Dealing with Brigham directly on this was also a convoluted pain in the butt. A lot of time expended needlessly in my opinion over what appears more than just an isolated problem. To Brigham’s credit though they do admit there have been problems with certain run/s of pipes. But obviously they have not mastered the fine art of damage control: Got a problem, be upfront with the public and state on your web page, social media page etc.how you will assist the buyer in the event he/she bought a defective pipe and the vendor will not issue you an immediate refund even if smoked.
Personally with so many great pipes I’d avoid the Brigham line for now. But if you want to give one a try, hats off to vendor 4-Noggins on Amazon. You’ll get an immediate refund if you get a bad one even though smoked.

Not familiar with Brigham. Per comments above, I'll stay away.

Lots of experience with the older / Canadian-made Brighams and zero issues with the proprietary threaded filtering system. It seems the lesson learned here is that their quality dropped when production was contracted to the Italian maker...it's best to avoid any Brigham with an Italy stamping. Sad.
