Rayβs Ice Cream in Royal Oak, Michigan. Been around since the 1950βs. Incredible cinnamon ice cream. Actually all of their ice cream in outstanding. I love cinnamon ice cream. I used to by a pint every month at Cold Stone when we were in Houston. My wife cringes when I talk about coming up with a cinnamon ice cream recipe. I think it would be good.

I remember when Alice Waters first served Garlic Ice Cream at Chez Panise in Berkeley, CA on Bastille Day, 1978.
The entire multi course meal was centered on garlic. The ice cream was great.

Can't say I've ever met ice cream I didn't like . Just cause it hasn't been mentioned yet, out here in the NW we have Olympic Mountain ice cream... kinda like our Blue Bunny. They do a mountain huckleberry that's pretty darn good. I was in Galesburg, IL in September for an event, and we found the best ice cream I've ever had. Local mom and pop place. Can't remember the name but if you're ever there, ask a local. Worth it. π

Cinnamon ice cream is awesome. Tastes like fried ice cream. Turkey Hill (I think) had a seasonal apple pie ice cream and I missed it when it was gone.
There's a shop in Bar Harbor that makes a chunky lobsta ice cream. It's better than you might think.

Temporally or geographically? If I ever find myself independently wealthy, I'm moving to mid-coast Maine. It should stay above the waves in my lifetime. The lobstas are high-tailing it to Canadia and cold water, anyway.

I spent the biggest part of my working life as a dairy/frozen manager for Safeway first, and then Kroger, where I worked hand & glove with a small Batch dairy called Homestead Creamery. H.C. produced high grade milk, butter, and ice cream, their egg-nogg and rum raisin ice cream was some of the best I've tasted. On a sad note, I can't count the gallons of their ultra-high grade Creamline milk I had to pour out when yuppie, city folks would take it home and open it to find cream hardening at the top, and return it, complaining that it was spoiled. One of my all-time favorite flavors of ice cream was a Cherry Chocolate Chunk, that Safeway made as a limited edition, back in the seventies, it made me the fat man I am today.
