Hello everyone.
I have a rope tobacco from Samuel and Gawith. It's very dry. I know how to rehydrate tobacco but not rope tobacco. Can someone tell me how I can do that? Thank you in advance.

Same as ribbon? A moist towel over a bowl or jar of the stuff--not touching the tobacco--repeated as necessary should do the trick.

Great advice, but do not be surprised if it is a less than pleasureable experience..."An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" when it comes to maintaining moisture levels. I have yet to find and instance where someone had a situation where they had a great experience bringing tobacco back from the grave. You can make it smokeable, but prepare yourself for disappointment...the loss of the oils plays a key role in the loss of the integrity of what that leaf once was. pipesmagazine.com/blog/pipe-smoking-lifestyle/how-to-rehydrate-pipe-tobacco-rehydrating-pipe-tobacco/

I constantly rehydrate dry pieces of tobacco years old, plugs and rope too back to near normal vigor. I don't use that method, though. I keep my tobacco to rehydrate in a mason jar sealed up with a piece of ceramic, or clay stone soaked in distilled water and I graduate the rehydration by topping up the moisture as it is absorbed. I've recently rehydrated a 2001 tin of Gallaher flake, some dried out 2012 McClelland Frog Morton Cellar, 2014 Motzek Strang, among others. The key is you want to gradually rehydrate that piece of rope by introducing small drops of water until they're absorbed. I would not suggest using paper towel as it will introduce a flavor of the paper pulp into the tobacco. You can even use a larger glass container setup where you just drop a few drops of distilled water into the sealed container away from, and not touching the tobacco. As you see within 24-48 hours that the water is being taken up by the tobacco, you simply feel the tobacco and apply another drop or two until gradually back at your preferred moisture. Straight ropes, Virginia's, and burley tobaccos rehydrate best. Aromatics can sour a little bit but are still worth experimenting.
I can say without hesitation, I've smoked 200g of Motzek Strang fresh and that my rehydrated leftover chunk is totally indiscernible and nobody would tell it's been rehydrated. The Frog Morton Cellar was more mild and had some aging and flavor loss from rehydration, but once it had been dried just a tad bit again it simply tasted like aged side by side. I smoked 10-15 bowls of it after rehydrating an old partial tin until it was gone and it was excellent.

Great advice Zach. I’ve used the ceramic disc dampening myself. It helped me to recover some 40 yr old Flying Dutchman which was grand to smoke since it was the Original blend long departed.

ivoupThe following method works wonders for me EVERY TIME- and so easy and convenient... simply slice off enough thin coins to fill your pipe. Rub them out so that they become loose ribbon leaf. Cup the load in your palm and enclose with the other hand so that your thumbs come together, like we did as kids to make a whistle. Blow warm moist air through your thumbs into your enclosed palm pocket until the tobacco attains the moisture level desired. It doesn't take all that much.
