Who are your favorite artisan pipe makers? I missed out on RDpipes since he retired. I wish I had the opportunity to buy one, but joined this site too late.

Toni Neilsen.
I have two of his pipes, great smokers.
Current prices are pretty steep.

Rad Davis and JT Cooke for sure. Throw in Sabina Santos too. Mike...Sabina makes some amazing pipes. They are simply out of my price range however. If you've got some of her work...I'll bet they are superb smokers!

Ron Powell, Slowroll, Don Warren, Doug Erwin, Tim West, and a few others I can't think of right now.

I don’t know that I can say I have favorites, per se. Don’t have enough experience with them. The most I can say is, of the few artisan pipes I own, Tom Eltang sure knows what he’s doing. His Sara Eltang line is more affordable but still excellent. (He designs those and an apprentice makes them, I think.) Davide Iafisco and Bruno Nuttens also do excellent work. Again, though, I only have one of their pipes, each, so that’s based on a small sample size.

The only true artisan pipe I've got is an RDP, as most of my pipes are factory and regular house handmade pipes. A short list for me would include: Amateur (untrained) - Ron Powell (only one I own) BST - Todd Bannard - Briar, Sweat, & Tears
Master or apprentice grade:
Sixten Ivarsson
Werner Mummert Sven bang Per Hansen Ulf Noltensmeier Alexey Kharlamov Vladimir Grechukhin Alexander Tupitsyn
Many others I could mention and I put the more homegrown pipe makers at the top of this list here. Those who didn't study under a master carver and apprentice to make pipes. I kind of consider that the bar for an artisan maker.

Well that's not entirely true. I do have other "artisan" handmade pipes but they're far more amateur and I won't name names.

Very fine craftsmanship. As far as RDpipes, I loved every one he posted on this site. His pipes were refined beauty.

I have a good collection of pipes. I have 2 Boswell pipes. I have plenty of factory pipes. In the near future I want to buy some high end pipes.

My RD is a great pipe. I didn't include him because he's no longer a pipemaker, so, unless an owner is selling theirs, you can't buy one.

Cramps(J Everett) makes some nice pipes. Priced similar to Ron's. Miss seeing Ron's bulldogs and Rhodesians.

My favorites are Rad Davis and Jack Howell. I recently did 13 straight commissions with Jack and they are all fantastic smokers. I also like Bruce Weaver, Brian Ruthenberg, Scott Thile and a couple more I can't think of at the moment.
I did a large culling moving out around 60 pipes which were mostly artisan pipes. I only kept the pipes that I considered top of the line smokers. Some were really good smokers but for one reason or another, they didn't make the cut. I am down to 38 pipes that I consider to be perfect for my smoking style. I have a nice 15 count rack with glass doors that is empty and waiting for some action.
It will have to be only special pipes that will go into it, and not pipes that are good but not great. I know exactly what I am looking for which makes it easier.
I have finally stopped having to put kids through college so I could easily up my price threshold but having experience with 2000.00 pipes years ago I know that all I am getting is superior grain and not a superior smoker. It will be fun see what ends up in my empty rack.

Here’s the list of my favorite artisans who are still making pipes:
Tom Eltang (nobody should be surprised by me mentioning Tom 😀) Erik Nielsen Scott Thile David Huber Don Warren Pipes (made by Don Gillmore) Kai Nielsen Johs
I’ll also throw in Kaywoodie since Bill is a one man operation. 🤪
