Wilke quality control?
I am admittedly newer to Wilke pipe Tobacco so I will lean on those who have more experience with their product. I don't smoke alot of aromatics these days but I'm a sucker for anything peanut butter. Several months back I had a couple of bowls of Wilke peanut butter whilst at my pipe club meeting. I loved it. My uncle who had some from that same time frame, sent me a couple of ounces. I loved it. It smelled like someone soaked it in delicious skatterbrain peanut butter whisky. So I placed an order for the cellar along with several other samples. It didn't smell anything like peanut butter. I let Wilke know, thinking that maybe my bag was mislabeled and they sent me more to make up for it. That's excellent. However, the second bag still didn't smell like the peanut butter I had on hand. Smoking it didn't even come close to the former batches. It had a vague, "maybe this could have some peanut butter in there....maybe" flavor. So now I have a bunch of "peanut butter" that I probably won't smoke. I don't want to further waste any more time and money there unless you guys tell me this is a complete fluke and perhaps there is some supplier issue.
For those of you who smoke Wilkes peanut butter, what is your long term experience with consistency?

I don't smoke Wilke and I smoke few aros. I don't smoke heavy flavored stuff like peanut butter. But those heavier flavored aros usually have the flavor sprayed on before tinning and most of the flavorings are artificial. They tend to dissipate quickly after opening or taste different than they smell out of the tin. Sorry you had a bad experience.

I've seen some variation in the Wilke blends, but nothing that bothers me. He makes it in small batches and there is probably some variation in the base tobaccos, but the topping should be the same.

The Wilke peanut butter flavors haven't been out all that terribly long (less than a year, I think), so probably nobody's gonna have tons of experience with it.

My experience with Wilke's aros (72nd St) has been pretty consistent. I've yet to try their peanut butter aro.

My experience with Wilke's newly batced Peanut Butter is that the flavorings go on heavy and require a flash-off drying period before it comes into it's own magnificence. My new orders go on a tray and sun bake for about 20-30 minutes... just until it's spongey dry. Probably my pick for 2022 1st Place Winner.

The flavor from 2 weeks ago is vastly different from 2 months ago I am suggesting that the drying-out process will prove to be a great equalizer in flavor between separate orders of the blend, to where you will find much more consistency from one order to the next. I believe that it's the amount of topping applied that differs from batch to batch resulting in a difference in flavor/strength perceived, and drying out to the same degree each time will equalize things to the flavor consistency you seek.
