We never know how a day will turn out around here. It's our 45th anniversary today, and at about noon our wonderful, loving beagle, Buster, suffered a stroke. I'd be more likely to strike gold in my backyard than I would to find a vet on Saturday, so after franticly calling all over town, we've just let him rest calmly on the sofa, and he seems some improved. He has had water and I took him out to pee, and he even ate a tiny bit.
He lost his sight at 5 years old, and now, at 9, this. He has the heart of a giant, but I don't know how much more he can take, or why so much should befall this gentle, loving creature, who brings joy to everyone around him.

Herb, it saddens me to hear this news. Hoping that Buster recovers.

So sorry to hear this...while it is too late in this incident...all who own furry family members should have the vet's cell # "just in case". We do and others that we know do also. It is like having the home # of your personal care physician...a necessity.
Truly hope all turns out well for your "baby".

Congrats on the anniversary.

Thanks so much guys. Someday I'll learn to have faith and not be so quick to write this little boy off. At supper, when the smell of hamburgers filled the air, Buster got off the sofa and joined us, laying at my feet, with his chin resting on my toes. When he began to think no meat was coming his way, he stood on his hind legs, with the tip of his nose taking an air sample...all trace of weakness on his left side gone! Once he and Sandy got a small chunk of meat, he went off, tail wagging, to take his place back on the sofa.

So sorry to hear about Buster’s “problem.” But glad to know he seems OK now. When they are sick WE are sick! I hope there will be no recurrence or any side effects. You go, Buster! And stop depriving him of his very own Buster-burger!

BTW, wanted to mention… When Jack was about two years old he had a seizure that resembled a stroke. He recovered in less than an hour and never had another one. There were no after effects. A mystery, but not a recurring one.

My first dog was a beagle. I still can’t talk about what happened to him though. 😢

A reminder to treasure those you love in your life. How's that for an anniversary gift?
Glad the little guy's (distinct from Ted's "little guy") perked back up. They're remarkably durable little beasties. Make all of us look like small children.

Sorry to hear the news. buddy. Our dog had one a few months back, but you'd never know now (apart from a lop-sided face).

Sorry to hear the news. buddy. Our dog had one a few months back, but you'd never know now (apart from a lop-sided face). As far as I can tell, Buster is back to normal. I put him on the bed with us last night, as I do most nights, and at the moment he is snuggled up next to my wife. Now and then he yelps out a muffled bark, from a dream likely filled with rabbits...I don't like to wake him when he's dreaming because I think perhaps, he can still see in his dreams. Just another word of thanks to you all...there really is no better race of people than pet loving pipe smokers!

Happy anniversary sir! Give the missus my regards. As for Buster, so glad to hear he seems to be recovering nicely! Our canine family (or feline if thats your persuasion) are truly family and it is hard when they have medical issues.

Herb, I didn't see this until just now, but I'm very glad to read that Buster seems back to normal. That must have really put a damper on the anniversary but I hope it turned out fine in evening. Our 12 year anniversary is in two days (17th)

Thanks Zach, we spent or anniversary quietly. Sharon spent the week before down at the Outer Banks, and while she was down there our water heater went to He// ,and had me doing the rusty water dance to the tune of just under $800 bucks. So, I made homemade soup for the big day, and we gifted each other a new water heater. The real gift is we got to keep the son we love so much, in spite of his habit of dressing up like a beagle and trying to make us think he's a dog.

Herb, the news of Buster's health scare threw me off a bit. Happy (belated) 45th Anniversary to you and Sharon. Hope that Buster's doing well. Enjoy the anniversary gift you gave each other.

Glad to hear the recovery was swift! We had an older dog that had seizures occasionally for the last couple years of his life. It's difficult to watch but they appreciate, once it's over, that you're there to comfort them.

Herb Happy Anniversary, I believe the gift you and wife appreciated the most was your furry friends recoup, then the water heater.

Well, that was a roller-coaster. I'm glad things are working out well with the pooch. And congratulations.
