I've been getting "Tobacco Business" via email, for a year or so now. (you know, keeping an eye on those unelected, self anointed bureaucrats and all of their "DEEMING" Bull Sh!t). Anyway, in this mornings email I ran across this.... tobaccobusiness.com/stg-reports-disappointing-q2-lowers-2022-expectations/Sure hope this isn't the signs of yet another one of our beloved pipe tobacco producers gettin ready to go under....

Which pipe tobacco brands does STG own besides Erinmore? I think they make Petersons tobacco. I really hope that they weather this storm.

Never good to see a report like this, along with taking place during a looming recession.
My 401K took quite a hit yesterday.
Doom and gloom.

www.tobaccoreviews.com/brand/838/scandinavian-tobacco-group-stgBasically, all they make anymore for the US market is Escudo & Balkan Sasieni. So I'll stock up on Escudo (as I do already), and if they want to continue on maybe they can do better with the rest. I guess it's just my current mood, so excuse me for calling just about all the rest gooped garbage.
Note: I'm purposely excluding the SWR, Half & Half, Velvet tub crap. It's unsmokeable with no nicotine. I've got two full 14 ounce tubs of SWR if anyone wants to offer up a trade! Best things they had are out of production. Warrior Plug, Yachtsman Plug, and they were pressing Revor Plug too. In fact as blunt as I can be, the only good tobaccos they owned they put out of production. Someone's making bad company choices at STG. Their golden goose is Escudo.

I would not smoke Captain Black if I were given it all free and in constant supply. It's under Lane though, that's true.I had forgotten they made the Peterson blends. Those would be losses for sure, but one quarter down 2% in sales is nothing for these cats. I would in fact believe these could easily be direct reasons for them declining; Captain Black, who really smokes that stuff? Extremely overpriced Borkum Riff? These are tobaccos that mainly just sit around on shelves until someone is conned into trying them. Sorry to those who can actually smoke it. I thought Borkum Riff Bourbon Whiskey was passable if there was nothing else available.

Of course, smoke what you actually like to smoke. Escudo, Orlik, & what's been discontinued by them would be my favorites. I'm guessing they're fighting an uphill battle in market dominance but that they'll do better.

Well if they make escudo, they can't keep it on the shelf...

On the whole, that doesn't seem like such terrible news, but I don't think like an investor (i.e., short-term). I also don't read earnings reports, so maybe this is the earnings report version of terrible.

Pipe tobacco is a tiny part of their portfolio. Their core business is premium cigars. Article says they expect a 2% drop in premium cigar sales in the next year due to demand changes and supply chain. I don't think it's a big enough hit to put them out of business, but they will have to adjust to the changing market. Maybe they'll notice that pipe tobacco sales have increased snd put more attention there. One can only hope.

Cigars these days are all hype and what’s new. STG/General has a lot of old school legacy brands that don’t get a lot of love. It seems like every brand they buy to spice things up seems to whither. They picked up Matt Booth with his Room 101 brand early this summer. I wonder what he’ll do? Cash a check for a year or light a spark. STG’s in house distribution company has issues too.
