Gents, I'm sure this kind of thread has gone around before, and if there's a search function, I'm unaware of it. Nevertheless, as I'm sure many of you do, I have a ton of empty tins laying around that I can't bring myself to toss. I've thought of a handful of ideas for them, though I haven't implemented any. I'll start a list, please feel free to add any creative ideas!
Beard balm Nuts, screws, tacs, hardware, fuses Fire start kit for go bags Fishing lures Ornament hooks Travel ashtray w half cork screwed in Paper clips/coins Rubber bands, sewing kit, 1st aid Mouth guards Tall ones for pipe cleaners Smoking kit for car i.e. tamper, cleaner Candle Clock To make char cloth/charcoal Wood chips for smoked cocktails Headphones Matches, toothpicks Geocaching To pack charging cables

I've got a 100-gm OGS tin on my desk that I toss various bits and bobs in so they're not scattered all over the desk. It's the perfect size. The 50-gm would be too shallow.

I'm not too imaginative. I just keep the empty tins in the cellar. At several points over the decade, I've tossed out and lost a huge load of them. Modern tins I don't care as much about but wish I still had a bunch of vintage painted tins, old Four Square and Gallaher's tins mostly. You just run out of space to store a bunch of empty containers.

I’m with Zach on this one, I save them in a large box and get rid of them when I can no longer close the box. I am always hoping that I’ll come up with a use for them. I tried giving them to people who thought the were neat, but when they opened them they always commented on the tobacco smell.

I am at the point in life where I have too much clutter and need to cull the herd of a lot of stuff, I discard my tins when they are empty.
Having said that, the round quarter screw tins (orlik, Peterson, etc) could certainly be reused for short term tobacco transportation to and from the pipe club rather than take jars…. I should probably do that.

I've reused some 2 oz. tins and 8 oz. cans ( C&D/GLP) for stuff in my workshop. Most get recycled. Also have held on to a few older painted tins and old OTC cans to decorate the cave with.

I used to save them. At one point I had a box full and box and all took up too much space. They got recycled. I will admit that they are good for storing little stuff.

I keep a little stash of cash in one in the safe. Little Guy now has one with a few dollars he is saving in it. I am in the beginning of using more stash cash than I can put back. Got air compressor half price $700 plus tax but that day boss man let me borrow skid steer for side job for one and a half times price of air compressor in about 6 hours! Got a price from electrician to put another beaker in and run wire and box in garage OUCH! Not for a couple of weeks now. Hot water heater is on it's last leg so sent my oldest some picks to match up a new one he knows a place in town hopefully a scratch or ding one for discount. Oh and need to get two new sets of tires this Fall. Stock and forearm should be done next month for 218 Bee. I see an empty tin at the end of this Fall but we will see. I have been very blessed this year and have not run out of funds new job works a lot less hours a little under half the checks I used to get but bills are paid life is better and Deere starts her new job Monday and will make double what she used too.

To pack charging cables I've used several just for miscellaneous stuff upstairs (cufflinks, keepsake coins such as pesos and kopeks, small cultural detritus from the sixties) and downstairs (odd screws & various workshop tinies), but haven't really done anything systematic with them. I have passed several more to spouse and adult kids and have probably reached their limit. But charging cables! I never thought of that. Now that I've taken a few hesitant steps into the late twentieth century, I have a couple of those, and I could give them a proper home with an empty tin.
One more tin down, a couple dozen to go.

I mount tins in my garage / smoking den. Take the lid off, drill a hole near the top of tin and into the wall. Then twist on the tin top.
WAIT!!!!!
I installed insulation, and later added more electrical conduits and boxes. Don't shock youself.

I have a St Bruno's Flake tin full of small Swiss Army knives, and another filled with some nicer folding knives. A Player's Navy flake tin with arrow heads inside. Some old Dunhill tins with stamps and some with coins. McClelland labels, if I can get them off the tins, I might flatten in a book, then frame them up someday. Some painted lids, from round tins, are screwed to the top plate in my garden shed, for decoration. The wife has a large P.A. tub with marbles, from her childhood...and yes, I do sometimes tell her where she lost her marbles.

Mounting tins and cigar boxes on walls needn't require a drill bit. I find that Velcro hanging strips do the job exceedingly well without damaging the wall, paint, tins, boxes, etc.
