Hey all,
I'm new to the Briar Patch (from Lincoln, Nebraska) and happy to be with you.
My first pipe was one bought for me by a friend in Europe about 15 years ago. I am sorry to say that I lost that one, probably in a move, after learning how to smoke with it over one summer. I bought another one for myself--a Salvinelli Duca Carlo--not long afterward (at least 10 years ago). I have hardly smoked a pipe since. I have, however, smoked cigarettes off and on--sometimes too heavily for too long--and not long ago I decided to ditch the cigs for my old (but practically brand new) pipe. The ritual and the slow nature of it appeal to me quite a bit.
I found "The Patch" doing some web browsing, looking for advice about pipe packing, lighting, smoking, etc. I didn't expect to find a whole online community of pipe smokers, but that's even better than what I was looking for. I look forward to benefiting from your wisdom!

Welcome from a Sandhiller. (I have heard of Lincoln. Somewhere to the east of me I think.)

Welcome from a Sandhiller. (I have heard of Lincoln. Somewhere to the east of me I think.) Ha! I love the Sandhills. Route 2 from Grand Island to the northwest corner of the state and Hwy 11 from St. Paul to Calamus Reservoir are two of my favorite drives in the United States--and I've done quite a few!

Welcome to the forum from Arizona!
Back in 1978, I was on an overlay crew and did some highway work near Lincoln. Salt of the earth people as I recall.

welcome/greets from 50miles East of Buffalo NY. Real old-timer with many pipe forums/chats ((many no longer exist) since '01 when got 1st computer. 53 pipes, all lucite stems, dedicated latakia-whore for past 17years. Any age jokes make my day, I start my share as still upright.
Ed Duncan, Batavia, NY 81 & still around
