Thought I'd start this thread and see what folks are using to wipe their pipes with. I've got a small stable of 30 or so restored/refurbed estates with everything from garden variety drugstore smokers up to Peterson's, Savanelli's and a couple of Dunhills. The more I smoke em I notice that they all eventually start to dull. I don't want to keep shinin em up on the buffer and would really like to find a solution for a daily/weekly wipe. I've noticed that P&C has a Decatur Pipe Shield cloth for sale www.pipesandcigars.com/p/decatur-pipe-shield-polishing-cloth-pipe-accessories/1491261/#p-171402For around $8.00 Anyone else have any experience with these? Are there better options out there? Thanks Dino

I just bought one at my B&M, so I don't have enough experience to make a comment.

I still have a 20 year-old spray can of Arango pipe wax. It works great but is no longer made. Arango did buy Denicotea and they offer similar products. The pipe wipes work reasonably well but the results are temporary, meaning after a while you need to re-apply. Easy enough to use so it's not a big deal. Also, don't bother buying Obsidian Oil for your stems. It's basically mineral oil which is many times less expensive. I have been experimenting with a product call Method Wood For Good Daily Cleaner to get the grunge off of older pipes. Works pretty well and the almond scent is pleasing.

I just use any soft flannel, or the microfiber towels can be bought in bulk at Costco. Retired socks work well...probably better if you wash them first. I listened to the latest pipesmagazine podcast, and the guest was extolling the virtues of using Zymol detailer on his briar, and he said it is available from Amazon...not sure which version though. www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dautomotive&field-keywords=zymol

A quick rub across the nose and forehead while still warm to apply natural oils and then buffed with the shirt-tail.

I use a Red/Pink Dunhill polishing cloth for daily maintenance.

After I admitted that I use worn out socks....I guess I am the most uninteresting man.
