Is there a way to date modern Dan Tobacco? I typically only see a sticker with a 5 digit number on it, presumably the lot no.

I've read this thread before and it's inconclusive. It appears to me that Dan puts a lot number and no date.

I would take a screenshot and send it to Steve Fallon at Pipestud. The thread is dated, and he might know more about it now.

For every company that puts a date on their tins like GL Pease, there are so many mfg who don't. Mac Baren does dates I believe. Allegedly Dunhill did and some say SG also has some dates on tins but then older ones don't. I don't think they are consistent.
Pipe mfgs, are some of the worst business people I have come across. I could make a list but it would be long and boring. Stupid is as stupid does.

Per conversation with pipestud Steve, there's no way to date new Dan tobacco. The code is indeed a batch number.

Is there a date when this 'new' tobacco was manufactured? If so, at least you know it's not any older than that date...I'm assuming the fact that you are enquiring about the date means you'd like something a little more accurate than that.

When I say new, I mean recent production, say in the last 5 years. I seem to remember older DTG having dates or date codes. Someone had suggested based on his observations of batch codes in the last few years, that he suspected they are using "hours", beginning on 1/1/2018. For example, a batch code 16846 would be 702 days, from 1/1/18 puts it at 12/3/2019. Just his theory, but so far, his number indeed fit.
