IMO it’s not pedantic to ask for accuracy in nomenclature. It’s the way we keep things straight among us. Thanks.

I have an old 50 cal Hawken that I have never shot. I guess I should get on that. I'll probably shoot patched round balls over 60 grains 3f, because that's what I have. I use 3F in all my 50s. Don’t even own any 2F. The “originals” carried only one powder, for both barrel and pan. I suspect it was something like our 3F. I had a mortor and pestel that I used to grind 2f to near dust for the pan.

Indeed. But when the ol’ peepers start complaining a 1x reddot sure is nice. Clean kills start ranking just slightly above tradition.

I had a 2X on a Garand which, at first I thought would be useless at that magnification, then I got it once at the range. I still have the scope and side mount but not the rifile.

The 1x reddot is capable of amazing shots at range. A 12YO once nailed a prairie dog at 242 measured yards with mine. 300Y hits on larger targets were never a problem.

I have a single shot Henry carbine in 357 with a red dot. It might be the last long gun I ever own. No recoil to speak of, accurate, easy to load for, and ruggedly simple. That carbine along with my S&W 686+ and a Mossberg pump, will get me by. Oh yeah, I would want my Nylon 66 and Hawken too. 😉

All I need is THAT gun. And that one over there. And that other one. And…
