In 2005 I moved into the neighborhood and met Ron And Tracy, my new next door neighbors.
We developed a close friendship, Ron former airborne ranger works for a local police force and Tracy is an incredible person in the culinary world.
Anytime we wanted to use their pool it was ours, got together for meals, the most gracious hosts or attendees. Ron was also an FFL and bought my son a fine pistol upon his honorary discharge from the Marines.
Ron and Tracy were from Chicago, and Ron an Army veteran became disillusioned by what he saw in the Chicago pd with corruption so he went west. He served as a detective in robbery and homicide, and the stories off the record were pretty wild. While others watched the news I knew the real story. He went to work on the violent offenders task force with US Marshalls, FBI, etc...truly the baddest of the bad.
Tracy catered my daughters wedding for the princely sum of $7 per person when she knew we were strapped for cash, and it was pretty amazing.
Their daughter received a full ride to Annapolis and is currently serving as a Doctor in the Navy, the son did his tour fighting the Taliban and is taking advantage of the GI bill to pursue a degree in nutrition while he does personal training, he is a hulk with the great personality and the looks women swoon after.
Ron had his retirement party today, moving back to the Chicago area and going to buy a house to care for both of their mothers.
True heroes among us, that never receive the accolades of the world. Great people that really make the world a better place.
