“In the hardest of times, it was often hard to smile.” — Unknown LOGAN, W.Va. — “Honestly, on trail, a pipe was an occasional treat. Not a daily thing. But there were some places where I really enjoyed sitting down and smoking a bit,” stated Todd Erehwesle, in a post to Pipe Magazine. Larry Hatfield, who was a dear friend of the Hatfield and McCoy Feud Facebook page and a descendant of the feudin’ Hatfields of Logan County, submitted this rare image in December 2013. Larry described the children, writing, "My dad is shown in the upper left, Henry "Dutch" Hatfield, along with his only sister and some of his brothers. This picture was probably taken somewhere around 1917 or so." Regina Hammond Hoffman, another friend of this page, said, “They started smoking very young, I know. My father, from Mingo County, started smoking at the age of 10; he told us this. My dad passed at a young age of 63.”

The Hatfields were just cousins of mine. Glad to have skipped all the fighting. My first wife's mother had a picture of her childhood similar to yours, but there were 17 kids.

A couple mean looking cusses! A rattler in your sleeping bag would be safer than messing with them two boys.
