Does anyone have an informed idea as to the effective rang of 12 gauge, 00 and 000 Buckshot fired through a 24 inch barrel with NO choke? DItto 2 3/4-inch rifled slug? I am assuming about 50 yards for 00. The old rule of 1 inch expansion per yard?
Pit Bull dogs are the target.
I recently lost a wonderful goat and a ewe. Both were pets.

I would consider about 40Y max for an unchoked gun. Pretty much same for slugs. Stray pellets “good” for another 20Y max, but hit or miss.

If you can buy military surplus Flachette rounds that would be the thing.

Flechettes can have erratic trajectories. Could be dangerous if pets/stock were close by.

Stuff a rabbit with tannerite and invite them dogs for dinner.

40 yards with a choke, 25-30 yards with no choke.

Stuff a rabbit with tannerite and invite them dogs for dinner. That seems to be somewhat effective, but the glee from the spectators worries me.

There are some seriously disturbed people out there who take pleasure in the pain and death of animals. I see it here when people swerve their vehicles to hit dogs and cats.

I couldn’t do that Tannerite stunt. Despite being the sworn enemy of coyotes, and with good reason, I have too much respect for them as animals to commit such a sadistic act.

Had a State trapper come on my property to rid the coulee of beavers, had a meeting with him, asked how would he do it, Trsps he said, that's good I told him, no poison on my land. Don't like it, my neighbor across the road put out poison for the stray dogs, told that Sonofabitch my dog doesn't stray but if he did and you poisoned him you'll regret it I Garront!

As I've gotten older I have a moment of regret if I have to swat a fly. I try not to kill anything that doesn't really need killing. Brother Coyote Trickster is only a problem because of domestic animals.

Not entirely true. He can also threaten the balance between wild critters, as he often does.

I see it here when people swerve their vehicles to hit dogs and cats. I wouldn’t do something like that to the yote’s, but if I had a wild pack of savage dogs killing my livestock and possibly killing me, I would have no problem in carrying out such an exercise. And that would be a more painless way they would suffer than the pain they exact on their prey, be it man or beast. Some of the sweetest dogs I have known have been my friends pit bulls that are raised responsibly. Some of the worst dogs I have known have been my nieces thug husband’s pit bulls that could leap to my face and rip my throat out had they not been in a totally enclosed cage. Sometimes, killers need killing… I don’t blame the dog, but sometimes you just have to do what needs to be done. If I were to lose both a wonderful goat and ewe, I would not shed a tear at the dismemberment of the savage attackers.
