Big improvement! I agree with both things you mentioned. Is there a bit of a swell, still, about 1/4" on either side of the shank-stem joint, or is that just the light messing with me? Just the light, I think. But worth double-checking.

If I can add a comment, I'd say that you've revealed the "inner pipe". Perhaps take a bit more off of the front of the bowl heel so that it lines up with the center of the bowl? Just a thought based on the photo.

Did a little tweaking to the shank and stem and the bottom of the bowl. I think the shape is much closer to standard now. Thanks for the feedback, guys!

It is great to watch the journey, Pete!
I might not post much on this thread, but it is great to see the evolution, and I have learned a lot.

Yes, that's the dye. I dilute dye with rubbing alcohol about 5:1. For a finishing coat, you can use Renaissance wax or Paragon (smooth pipes) or Halcyon II wax (sandblast/rusticated pipes). They are all appropriate for cloth buffing.

Oh, what % rubbing alcohol are you diluting with? 99%? Just the drugstore kind. 70%. I generally do several coats.

Here are a few recent additions to the collection. No real restoration work, just some clean-up, removal of rim cake, cleaning stems and sanitizing... From the top - BBB Own Make Virgin Zulu, Parker Super Russet Lumberman, GBD New Standard long-shanked Billiard, Barling EXEL TVF Lumberman. The stems on the BBB and Parker need a little more work to remove some oxidation.

Eat your Wheaties on this one!
It looks like it has good bones, and someone smoked the hell out of it so it is probably a good smoker. A worthwhile project.

A couple days in the Silver Pipe Spa, and she'll be pretty again. I started by giving it a good toothbrush scrub with Murphy's Oil Soap. Looking much better.

I need to take a better photo of the rim. It's actually a nice reddish mahogany color.
