I went for a lunt yesterday on a hilltop. There was a bit of a breeze so the smoke only lasted about 5 mins, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.
Are there many other lunters here, or would you prefer to sit and contemplate?

I suppose if I lived out in the countryside, I would be more inclined to do so. Whenever the wife asks for me to go for a walk with her be it at the riparian reserve, or some other venue, I jump at the chance to take my pipe.

Oh, yes. Frequent excursions. Fewer, though, when the temps approach zero.

Often while I'm hiking. Seemingly while walking around neighborhoods and nearer by I tend to smoke cigars.

I do a lot of front porch sitting and contemplating, but I do mix in some lunting. I especially enjoy walking on top of the Mississippi River levee when I know that a paddlewheel excursion boat will be passing by my vantage point. I enjoy hearing the sound of the water splashing through the paddles of the wheels and of course hearing the calliopes and waving to the passengers! It's fun to imagine how life was for the Mississippi River travelers during the historic heyday of paddlewheelers a'la the Mark Twain era during these lunts. I sometimes meet the paddlewheeler when it docks at a nearby town and get to meet some of the passengers as they disembark for a local land excursion. I also enjoy lunting through my small farm fields and also walking through a local cemetery that goes back to the 1720's (before the American Revolution) and still is in use for current interments. I have a good number of deceased relatives interred there. I encounter a lot of local history reading the headstones and tomb markers. I just know there are quite a number of pipe smokers interred in this cemetery so I puff away in their memeory.

I can barely walk and smoke at the same time. I sometimes wander around my acre with the pipe contemplating the grass, trees and pond. I very rarely smoke away from the house.

I have a pipe everytime me and the dog go for a walk. If it's a long walk, I go for a cigar instead. I like exploring the woods around the area where I live, and I keep a spare pipe and a few bags of tobacco in my backpack. I'd hate to trip and break a leg and have to lay there in misery with nothing to smoke.
I also sit on the porch, or in the shed to smoke too. Doing absolutely nothing but smoking.
It really depends on the time of year. Right now it's deer season, so me and the pooch stick to the roads and the yard.

Not as often as I should. Pipe smoking in nature is the absolute opposite of stress.

As my life gets more stressful, I might find myself going for more.

I take a pipe with me when I take George for his afternoon walk around the neighborhood. Other than that I have one when driving and when sitting around doing nothing.

I was curious about the origins of the word. Surprised that it is so ancient, ca. 1540 apparently. But surprised also by some of the alternate modern meanings of the word. I won’t quote them here. You are on your own!

OK...I'm not the hippest dude on my block. In fact, I think I quit trying to by hip in 1970. What in Sam Hill is lunting? Sounds like a combination of hunting over your lunch hour. (Waiting for Mrs. Zarnicky to enlighten me.) Back on topic: Mrs. doesn't really like me smoking indoors, so to keep peace, I don't. I have done so when she's away from home for a few days visiting family. Even I find the aroma of my tobacco a little intense. We have a small house. So the front porch has become my de facto smoking lounge. OK....I found it. lunting Should've known.

Walking and smoking. Sort of like canoeing and ... , or not.

When Blondie and I walk the pups in the neighborhood I'll usually fire up a stick, but occasionally grab a briar.

If I'm walking, it's briskly to get exercise, and smoking gets in the way. That, or I'm on my way to the boomerang field

Yes, boomerang fields are very rare. Boomerangs fly much further than folks think. You need a space that's bigger than a football pitch, that's (a) Flat (b) Devoid of obstacles, like trees, light poles, signs, or anything else. Usually any flat field that big has stuff on it, trees at the least. If there's just one tree in the middle, you are guaranteed to hit it. Boomerang fields are rare.

When I was a kid at the Boys Club we had a wood shop and a huge athletic field. We would cut out the boomerangs on the band saw and shape them on the belt sander. Some days we would turn out a dozen for the other kids. They flew great. The only problem was that the wood we had access to would break if it hit wrong.

That's impressive that you knew how to carve boomerangs. The range of my warm-up rang, a regular rang, and a long distance one, and why a football field isn't big enough:
