Over the years my friend Ben, or Ben the Great as we like to call him, has given me some very special items. My one and only Dunhill pipe, a rack of six E.A. Carey pipes, a squat bulldog by Lowe & sons, all yard sale fines from Ben... This morning, when he came by to pick up the haul of baked Christmas goodies, we had for him, he came in with a gift-bag in each hand. A tiny teacup and plate from occupied Japan, and some flowers in her bag, and in mine, old-time pocket tins from Prince Albert, and Velvet, complete with 69 cent price tags, plus, and best of all, an unopened, 7oz. tub of Prince Albert...maybe some of you can tell me when the squaty little tub was discontinued.
The tub came with a coupon insert for a Whitehall pipe, when you send it in with 4 bucks, but I don't think I'll be trying that. I am, however, smoking a bowl in my Lorenzo pot, and while it is very dry, it smokes fairly cool and slow, with much of the P.A. flavor and aroma I remember.
Once again Ben the Great has justified his nickname!

Excellent. No help from me on dating them, but you're probably wise not trying to redeem the coupon! It could very well predate me.
We should all be so lucky as to have a Ben in our lives.

Looking at the coupon more carefully I found a 1985 date seems strange to think of 1985 as antique, but it is what it is...

It really struck me recently seeing the convenience store thingie that says you must be born before X to buy beer and its a 21st century date. Meh, I didn't think getting old would happen so fast.

Ha, and I'll send you the 4 dollars, and the coupon...lets hold off on that, I have a Whitehall too, and other than the crappy button, it's not bad. I picked it up at a yard sale, back in the late Seventies, from an ex-Tinder Box employee...ten bucks for eight briars, so I guess I beat the coupon deal.
