I have a Falcon Plymouth Bowl around a year old which has started to crumble around the base hole. My other two Falcon briar bowls of comparable age and use do not show this. I suspect a briar defect rather than my smoking too hot.
Other than a screen does anyone have repair experience with something like this? I was also wondering if there's any treatment--coating or oil perhaps--that would strengthen a Falcon bowl in that area.
Holiday greetings --

I think that a screen would be a temporary fix. I have 9 Falcons from the !960s and have never had a problem like that. Sorry that I couldn't be any more help.

Think I'm going to try positioning a round screen and then rebuilding the gap with pipe mud.

I would suggest that it's an opportunity to replace it with a Don Warren bowl. Maybe morta? ๐

I was going to mention the same earlier, with a link to his website, but I got an error that someone may be impersonating his website. www.dwpipes.com/I will try to give him a call tomorrow and give him a heads up.

I have a Falcon meerschaum bowl but the thread attachment came undone (the thread part of the bowl is a nylon attachment -- if Falcon meerschaums are designed any other way I'm unaware.) Didn't get any resolution with the seller so it remains unfixed. Enjoy the meerschaum smoke but have resisted getting a full carved meerschaum. Too breakable from my perspective. And I won't smoke any pipe that stares back at me.

I have that same Meershaum bowl and the same problem. I haven't tried to reglue it because I got rid of the pipe. I have an Ozgur floral carved bowl on a Kirstin and it doesn't look at me.
