Interesting article. Thanks for sharing it.
I haven’t crossed paths with him, but there’s a good chance he goes to the Chicago and/or Columbus Shows as well. Lebanon, IN is southern Indiana just northwest of Indianapolis. The Indiana people I know are northern Indiana.

You have a few holes to plug, John.

Nice little article, thank you for sharing. I like the comparison of smoking a pipe with the ritual of loading a muzzle loader. There is something special to it.

I do take issue with one comment:
“ Cigarettes are the worst due to their frequency of use and deep-draw into the lungs, while chewing and snuff are a close second.”
Not sure about chew for sure, but I remember seeing a story where a rotted jaw from chewing tobacco was cherry-picked on a person that was prone to the affliction.
And I have read where Sweden authorities have found no connection to cancer from Swedish snuff.
Too busy facing a snowstorm in Colorado to provide proof from my phone. 500 mile day, so that adds to no desire to support said claims.

Snus (as snuff is called in Sweden; also it is oral only and not sniffed) is extremely socially acceptable. There’s hardly any smokers left in our Stockholm office but walk into any meeting and half the people will pull a Snus container out. Or go out to dinner with a group and when dinner finishes, half the people pull out and pop a Snus packet in their mouth. Swedes who had just met me would be a bit surprised to see me pull out some Snus and join in. That would start them down the road to understanding why the old timers would refer to me as the Swedish American. Like I said, I spent a LOT of time there.
