Mixed burleys with Lancer's from 09 tossed in, to make three bowls worth of smoking pleasure. One in the Kristi freehand, one in the Estella 606, and one in a little beater billiard with no name. Spent a big part of the day on the phone with insurance people, starting a claim for water damage from a crapped-out water heater...this might require a lot of pipe smoke and hair pulling!

Really cold in Vegas today, icy rain.
I ducked into a small casino/ bar that shares the same lot as the hotel, ordered a beer and asked if I could smoke my pipe since I saw a cigarette smoker light up.
“ No, we don’t allow cigars, pipes, or anything like that.”
I am going to make it a point to come back in a month with my pipe and a great smelling aromatic and light up. When they tell me to leave, I will tell them just as well, the pipe is an antidote to chemically addled cigarette smoke.

Hal O' the Wynd in a BBB Silver Grain. A blend that really fares well when you age it, of course that could be said of most any Virginia blend, but in that regard it really stood out to me as an aged tobacco. I only have one BBB… a billiard and it is a great choice for Virginia’s.

Sutliff Golden Cavendish, in a small, neglected Stanwell from way back in my collection. The pipe has three brass rings, is a lovely bent Dublin with a fine sandblast that shows off 360 degrees of ring-grain...under Stanwell it looks like Roli or perhaps Rolie{ some help if you know }, and is in like new condition...just a tad to small for my taste. Coffee on the side, as usual.

Something a little unusual this week. My oldest daughter lives in semi-rural northern California with her husband and children. For Christmas she sent me a small jar of her friend's home-grown tobacco. It doesn't look like any tobacco I had seen before--light in color and in loose dry flakes. I was apprehensive about how it would pack and had no idea how it would taste. But it turns out to be very good, and I've been enjoying it frequently on my commute to work and back home. The flavor is more reminiscent of Virginia than of burley. I'll ask my daughter if her friend can tell her any more about it.
