Cringle Flake 2020 in my Luciano bamboo shank blasted Billiard. For those of you who know Sally “The Pipe Tart”, I bought this one unsmoked from her out of her personal collection.

I'm not too big on meers and only break one out a handful of times a year. This one smokes great and I have absolutely no complaints about it, I just prefer wood and corn 🤣 Similar here. I have one meer and it only gets smoked a few times a year. Meer, morta, and cob have never really grabbed me. I much prefer briar or olive wood. 🤷♂️

Altinok has a good reputation, and they get very good reviews. So many Meers from Turkey have bad drilling and aesthetically substandard. I won some “Altinay” pipes in a brick and mortar auction, (with a bunch of pipes I actually wanted)new and unsmoked, aesthetically pleasing. But the drilling and mortise, Egads! Off to EBay with them. Altinay is not the same as Altinok. I have an Altinok POY and the engineering would relagate it to the basket if it was a briar pipe. I assume that is the PSF PotY 2015. In order to meet the quantity in a short time frame, Altinok does seem to have cut corners and reduced the quality standard for that pipe. However, to be fair, that can be said for just about any pipe maker who has to make a certain quantity of pipes in a short period of time. I see it all the time in a lot of slow smoke competition pipes. In the case of my PSF PotY 2015 Altinok, the draw was like trying to drink a thick milk shake with a cocktail straw. Shining a bright light through the translucent faux amber acrylic stem, I could see why. Stem airways are drilled with a tapered bit. Just the very tip of the bit had reached the shallow slot and there wasn’t more than a 1mm air hole. After pulling out my slot cutting tool and micro files, I gave the slot a proper funnel. After that, the pipe has great airflow and smokes good. Once additional issue is that they did not give the stem a final polish with a buffer and it was hazy until I had it buffed.

I've always wanted an olive wood, but one hasn't really caught my eye YET. They can have some really interesting grain, but I just haven't found the one that says YOU NEED ME. Mortas can look really cool and I go through phases where I really want one, but I dont need another pipe that's just going to sit on my shelf. Back on track, loading up some "Red Wine Soup."

I've not really looked at the stem. The stummel was roughly drilled and the draft hole is tight with several sharp transitions. I can fix it, but why? Compared only to other Meershaum pipes it's a gem!. The 2016 and 17 had no such issues.

Bourbon Street in my everyday calabash. I’m not sure how old it is, I bought three or four cans of it, along with a lot of other tobacco in 2011 when a local tobacco store was doing away with their pipe tobacco section. Asking “How much would you take if I bought everything” paid off that day.

Wife and I went to visit Sis and BIL for a bit this evening. Friar's Bayou in the Monday cob for the Drive there and my rusticated pot for the drive home.

For whatever reason, I just stuck the bag in a Ball jar and forgot about it. I found it last year and upon opening the jar I found the 1Q had fused with the plastic bag and the bag was breaking down into goo. The smell was intense and not in a good way.

I started the second day of 2023 with Milan's Triple Crown in my Estella 606, followed by a cigar, odd for me, but most enjoyable, a Punch Classico, with aromas that were almost hypnotic, and last an Estella 616 loaded with a home-blend mix I call "Morning Fog", a smoke that seems far better suited for the evening pipe.

Nothing yet, but when I stopped by the apartment I loaded up a pipe roll with a couple pipes and some Old Gowrie. If I can find a suitable spot, I’ll have some later.

Asking “How much would you take if I bought everything” paid off that day. I once got the last two 14 oz tubs of Carter Hall in a regular "Tobacco Stop" store for $15 a tub in a similar situation. They told me the tubs sat there for a year or two and nobody ever bought them. They said take both of em for $30 if you want so we can get them out of here.
