Cliff did a review of this one on a podcast. Here were my tasting notes:
Very intriguing smell. Immediately latakia but not overwhelmingly. Then it's a figgy vaper. Smells really good. Needs a few min to dry. The first few puffs had noticeable latakia and cigarette which faded quickly into a vaper and hint of Burley. The vaper is more woody, hay/pepper spice than bready/figgy. First thoughts are that it's not my favorite vaper, wouldn't buy more yet. Rough edges that need rest. Revisit summer 23.

Released at SmokingPipes about 2 months ago. It's an entire new series Pease is doing. Not sure when but sometime in the next few months I expect to see the next in the series. Watch SmokingPipes.

Been meaning to try it but I keep telling myself I got a ton of blends to try already.

After opening a moldy tin of GLP a couple of years ago, I stopped buying any of their tobacco. I forget which blend it was and did not try to get a refund or anything. I couldn’t remember who I ordered it from and it had 3 to 4 years of age on it.

I talked to Greg about the issues that C&D had on some of their red releases. “ Frankly, I am surprised it does not happen more often” Greg told me. I know that they had an issue with some temple bar tins years ago, but I have cracked a lot of old tins from Pease that are simply magnificent! I have never had a moldy Pease tin, it sucks that you did. Just my opinion, but if you lose a tin, the payoff for when that does not happen most of the time is rewarding. I never sent in any of my red Va. tins during the C&D recall, I have yet to crack a moldy tin… think I bought a dozen… 2016?

It has dissuaded me. I don’t have any real need for more tobacco. I have enough good aged tobacco. When I do spend money on tins these days it is for things I love that are in the realm of unobtanium. Mostly Esoterica, SG, G&H, Rattray’s blends I am fond of, that are often scarce. I have never had moldy product from those brands. I am mostly done acquiring tobacco like I used to do anyway. I have enough to last me until I assume room temperature.

The worst was the tin of Penzance that was gifted to me. It was 4 years old when I opened it and it was full of mold. Mold happens.

Yes, mold exists. I only tolerate it in cheese. It will put me off of bread for a while after I encounter it and also tobacco. I once took a bite of a moldy chocolate bar of all things. (At night, on a road trip). I could not eat chocolate for a long time after that. If I encounter mold in Penzance, it will probably scratch that one off for me too. I’m the guy that has bad food at an establishment and then never gives them another chance. At least not for many years.

She is the only one in the house that eats it, so it lasted a while. The last piece tasted funny. She looked at the remaining cake and the entire bottom was covered with mold. Luckily she didn't get sick.

Speaking of cakes, the same anti-mold agent is used in pipe tobaccos that bakers use. Mycoban. Sodium and calcium propionate. Otherwise, all your tins would be moldy and your loafs of store bought bread, cakes, cookies would just be moldy within a matter of days. C&D and G.L. Pease production try to use as little as possible to stay closest to natural tobacco and so you occasionally get mold. UK and German makers tend to try to use vinegar for this and other methods but I've seen many a good report opening an entire 250g batch of Full Virginia Flake or other Gawiths only to have it all molded. I've only had mold a couple of times. All of your tobacco is naturally covered in spores and yeasts anyway, we're not smoking sterile natural products.

My C&D Temple Bar was about four years old when I opened it. It was completely covered in fuzzy mold. I still have another couple of tins that are newer. I may crack one open soon.

I've never used any anti-mold products in my pipe or cigar blends and never had any issues. I'm sure the handling processes must contribute to the problem.
