Looks like Bally Sports is about to declare bankruptcy. That's going to create major problems for a lot of MLB, NBA, and NHL teams, whose regional tv contracts are with Bally. They'll have to figure out a way to get their games televised for their fans, and how to replace the massive revenue Bally won't be paying them.
Fans of those sports may have to "cut the cord" long before they intended.

That's rough. My teams are on New England Sports Network. (I have to pay for MLB.TV for BB and ESPN+ for hockey, as I'm not in New England.) And NESN got shorted on their contracts when some baseball went to Apple (with terrible broadcasters) and Bruins games were sold to TNT. Bad for the fans, bad for the local networks. But someone is making coin, so whetevs, right?

Yeah. I can't really speak to the other sports, but baseball is getting very fragmented. Games are scattered across about a half-dozen streaming platforms. It's good for somebody's bottom line, I guess, but it sucks for the fans. MLB.tv should get you every game, period.

I agree! When especially baseball is trying to attract younger viewers, I'd think a priority would be making the games available in one place.

The younger viewers know how to pirate every game they want.
My son is in his mid thirties, and he is able to pull up anything on demand he wants to, the quality may not always be the greatest though.

I disagree; sports viewership is going to seriously decline if every game is behind a paywall. You have to be taught to become a fan. As long as sports consolidate into a single channel, it becomes easier and easier to ignore it unless you are a die hard willing to pay for every game. Sports should seriously consider building a new generation of fans through over the air channels (e.g. a game of the week). Sports can't rely on junior sports to create new casual fans like they used to do given that participation rates are way down in the US.

Maybe these teams will have to cut back on billion dollar salaries. Too bad.

Zarnicky loving baseball. Some liking Boston Red Socks, some liking Chicago White Socks. Best is Zarnicky Nylon Socks. They getting more runs. Zarnicky's favourite sports are Judo and American Cane Self Defense. Not televised very much. You can watching on YouTube. Sometimes Zarnicky playing hockey with a warped puck.

Never heard of Bally Sports. Actually, I haven't either. Unless you're talking about betting lounges.

Onhockey.tv, the best hockey site out there. Any game anywhere! MLB.66 quit working so I can't watch my Chicago Cubs much. Hockey is my favorite anyway.

Then they have the gall to tell you it should be a source of civic pride. And the local powers that be, scrape and bow to the demands. I stepped into exactly 1 stadium game in the last 20 years, only because my son was in the Marine corps color guard. Funny side story…. I had a meeting before that game where a suit was pretty much what one should wear in that setting. Right as I got to the stadium and went through security, I realized that “heck, I have my .45 cal 1911 on me!” Well no one goes to a football game in a suit, and the person manning the gate said “ You are obviously with the Bidwells!”, opened the gate and let me in unwanded as I gave a wink. (The Bidwell family owns the PHX Cardinal’s. The downside is, that I could not take my coat off for the entire game. 😕

Here prices for live events aren't too high as long as you avoid visiting US teams or the ballet.

The stadium had just opened and was air conditioned so it wasn’t too bad, but would have been better coatless., I was more worried about my coat lifting up exposing my gun.
I avoid the major venues for parking prices, crowds, non smoking, ridiculous prices on food and drinks, hiking to he restroom, and a hassle leaving after it is over.
Other than all that, a live game is more desirable. 😉😂

Within 7 years they were 10x what we had been paying.

A colleague of mine spent 10 grand taking his family to Disneyworld…. I can think of a much more rewarding way of spending that kind of money.

These days it's a life savings for two up front seats. Insane. But my guess is they followed suit with sports stadiums and save the best seats and suites for corporate customers who will pay whatever the price is. Drives the cost of all the other seats up as well. Needless to say I don't go anymore.

We used to get 6th row tickets for rock concerts if we could. That's achient history now.

The problem with the national symphony and ballet companies is that whilst they subsidize tickets for most shows, scalpers buy them out beating the purpose of the subsidy. We live in front of a small experimental theater and, no offense to them, but most shows we've seen there are failed experiments at best. Last one we went to was a monologue by a woman recounting how she slowly went crazy during the pandemic and how her cat became bigger and bigger throughout it. They had a papermache puppet of the cat...it was awful.

We used to live near a community theater that always had good shows. Agatha Christie and such. Every year they had a Mellerdramer that was a lot of fun. Free popcorn that you were expected to throw at the actors. Really miss that. We have plays in the next town 12 miles south of us. The annual Play, The Diamond Bessie Murder Trial, based on a real event.
