Went in for some deep cleaning (root planing) this morning. And talked about some of the other stuff that has been done and needs to be done with the decades-long disaster that is my dentition. I told the dentist I thought the best solution would be a head transplant. See, my plan was to get that done, then talk to my doctor about a body transplant, and I'd be set for a while. He laughed and said we could all use that, but I don't think he's going to do it. Bah. Back to Plan B.
The pipe-related part of all this is that the post-procedure instructions say don't smoke for a few days, as it inhibits tissue healing. And you know? I can't remember when I've wanted to light up my pipe so much. Human nature, ain't it grand.
But right after I first arrived, who should I see coming into the office but my youngest daughter! She lives nearby and has been seeing this dentist for a while, but neither of us knew we had an appointment right then. (Hers was with our dentist, mine mostly with the hygienist.) Then our appointments ended about the same time as well, so we chatted for a while before we went our separate ways. So that was good.

I remember the dentist saying no smoking with my wisdom teeth removal. In that situation I think there was a good chance with sucking in with a cigarette, pipe or cigar the blot clotting be sucked out and cause further bleeding. Ahh, but the wife should feel bad for you. I would think she would be fine with lighting up a favorite blend of yours and blowing it in your face. π

I had the same thing done a few years ago. And then he showed me the "plan" to get teverything fixed after. There was no way I could pay what he priced out (no insurance), so I gave up. It's been a disaster since then.
Ive had issues with every tooth that he messed with after that, so I quit going.
I'm getting my yanked out and getting some wooden ones. Maybe I'll go with Briar, lol.
Best wishes to you!

Nicotene is a vasco constrictor, always wise to take a chill pill on smoking when preparing for surgery and in the rehabilitation process...especially with the fine vessels carrying the blood to the affected areas. And of course you cellar get's just a bit more age in the process.

Laying off the nicotine is a wise choice. When I had my left wisdom teeth taken out I didn't listen to that part. I was still chain smoking cigarettes then, and nothing was going to break that habit. I'd wet a few cotton balls and put it over the holes, bite down, and smoke away. It felt like it took forever for them to heal. I went nicotine free when I had my right side done and it healed up faster and better.
Meershaum teeth... I grind and clinch my jaws too much. I'd be poopin caulk! Haha

I'm going in to the dentist for a first visit Monday morning. I dread the bill. At least he offers sedation.

Sedation when they hand you the bill, that's what I need. Actually this new office is very understanding about that aspect of the thing, and they have even discounted a couple of the procedures--but still--it's a lot.

I like this guy. He is local, born and raised here, went to Baylor then to UT Med for dental school. All very nice and reasonable prices. He has to redo the $1800 crown I got last year by a "cheaper dentist" because it wasn't done right. I'm still paying for it! π© Anyway, to take care of everything including a lot of stuff that I've been putting off for years it's $7800. Ouch.

Good grief that's extortionate! Maybe. But I called on Friday and got an appointment Monday morning and walked out 3 hours later with a new crown manufactured while I waited on a CNC machine from scans with a laser wand. Can you get that there? Of course our tiny town is bigger than Mosside and Toberdoney together. I suspect that most people there don't live in the towns.

At last year's Chicago Show, I was chatting with a guy who told me that he goes to Turkey for his dental work. He claims that even with travel cost, major work is far far cheaper and is high quality. π€·ββοΈ Iβm skeptical, but he was very enthusiastic about it.

Thatβs a long way to go to see a dentist.
