Simplicity can be its own reward. I know a lot of people would like to be able to downsize to something like that. They just can't let go of their stuff. Necessity is the answer. Get rid of the closet and the stuff has to go.

This is where I'd normally comment that my wife will never let go. But I have to give her credit, in the last two years she has cleaned out a 10x20 storage shed we were paying for. Some of it ended up home, but the shed we have on the property is 8x8 so the vast majority of the junk got let go. She's trying.

Or she's learned how to pack better.

Or she's learned how to pack better. Probably a little of both

I'm back online, after two days with no internet, only one hardline phone, on the kitchen wall, no water-heater, or dishwasher, and because we are on a well, we were Un flushable...off grid so to speak. The floor crew finished up { KINDA }, and the painter will be finished on Friday. The new floor is just Beautiful, but neither of the two lead men on the floor team was thoughtful or honest enough to tell me that the door coming into my house from the garage, was draging, and the floor was too high for a threshold strip...I was busy stupidly, being overjoyed with the new floor... In the morning the floor companyis gonna want the second $ 4500.00, and somebody is going to come look and this door and unfinished butt-end of the planks that will ware and splinter in time.
something wonderful did happen because of this...find out what, in the DOGS thread!

Been there Herbster, stand your ground.. after the check is cut, you are at their mercy. Keep them in your mercy, I would expect that as a contractor.

I called the floor company this morning, and got a call back in nothing flat...told the rep what I told you guys above and got a follow-up call shortly after...a trouble shooter is on his way!

Yesterday we began the task of returning our belongings to the newly refurbished rooms. I returned the homemade shelving, and shoe-racks to the bedroom closet, then I set our stereo system back up, and only then did I address the main issue, two large boxes of tobacco returned from the garage, one of wich had been hiding there since before Christmas... at last, the joyous return of my 1/2 PT. jars! Then, tuckered out and ready for a smoke, I was allowed to bring in two big boxes of "keeper" cook books, and stoop and twist to store them away in the bottom shelf of my pipe cabinet, a place I had hoped to store some tobacco, not yet purchased. Later in the evening I attempted to rise from a chair, and was stabbed in the lower back, with a pain that persists today, even after more than the recommended amount of Advil. Some days you eat the bear, some days the bear eats you!

You got to the putting-things-back stage pretty quick! Glad to hear it.
Sorry about the back. Stooping and twisting with much of a load will do that.
