Anybody have a guess at how many pounds of tabac they go thru in a year?

I was just wondering that the other day while I was finishing off the last bits from a few tins. I started paying attention to how much by weight I smoke on average everyday and I figured that I’m at about six to seven pounds per year. It’s odd to think about that way since I smoke so many different blends, I don’t necessarily see that much tobacco disappear out of my jars.

I think I’m smoking too much. 4# since 3rd week in November.
I’m getting 22-25 days per pound.

That’s not too much! I know I’d be smoking two to three times what I do if I could. Time and business get in my way and I rarely smoke when I’m out and about. I resort to vaping when I can’t smoke.

I don’t smoke much, no smoking allowed at work, smoking at hotels outside only in cold weather, and too much going on when at home.

I doubt I go through more than a pound a year personally. But then, I only smoke when the weather is decent outside or at the pipe club meetings. I smoke to enjoy the experience, if it's too hot or too cold outside I don't enjoy it.

If I average 1 bowl a day, that's 2.4 pounds per year.

I don't keep track for similar reasons mentioned due to smoking so many different blends, but I believe I often smoke something like 5-15 pounds per year depending on if it's a good year. These past couple years there are times I'm so busy that I seem to barely smoke one or two pipes per day for weeks/months on end. In the summer and good months I can ramp up to smoking 6-8 bowls per day.
I tend to buy 50+ pounds per year so the supply only grows.

I hadn't figured this in a long time. Looks like about 3 pounds per year. It adds up quick.

Good grief! At that rate I’m up at 15 pounds a year. A disgusting addict. 😩

Not a “disgusting addict”, more like a Voracious Connoisseur.

A disgusting addict. 😩 If how much you're smoking bothers you, then it's too much, but I don't think there's any objective standard you're violating. You're certainly not the only pipe smoker who goes through a pound in a month, and many of them are perfectly respectable!

At first glance, I thought this thread was going to be about tuberculosis. Yea, I know, I'm a little weird.

If I average 1 bowl a day, that's 2.4 pounds per year. If that's correct, my three daily bowls put me at over five pounds never really thought about it...oh well, carry on

At first glance, I thought this thread was going to be about tuberculosis. Yea, I know, I'm a little weird. It could be about me eating on the corporate CC. I always feel cheated when there is not a fancy restaurant near the hotel...stuck at Denny's on Wed. night.

I thought the same thing. That's how old we are. I had a sister and a BIL that were in the old TB hospitals and had lungs removed in the 50s. Not a good time.

I've had bronchitis and pleurisy. That's as close as I care to get. This is what the ward my sister was in looked like. It was by Buffalo Bayou in Houston. My mom took a big pot of beans every Sunday for the ward. I was about 6 years old. There wasn't any AC or heat, just big screened windows with wooden battens that they closed in bad weather.

Not a good time is correct, I had an Uncle who was forced to go to a sanatoriom at Black Mountain NC, a county sherrifs escort was enforced to make sure He arrived there. He was not a happy camper to say the least. He survived unscathed. Uncle Raliegh was a tough old bird.

Houston doesn't seem like an ideal climate for TB recovery. If you read about it, there were a lot of places that were worse. Pennsylvania had some bad times, but it was the same pretty much everywhere.
