An old gal I've known for a long time sent me a little blast from the past today...some Cater Hall,in the little box, and this Cherry Blend; both have been off the shelve for some time...here's my humble thought on the Cherry Blend.
I opened the old Luxury pouch and found something I didn't expect, moister, just a bit, but it was there, and some pouch aroma too, faint , but mild cherry-like aroma.
I remember this as a ribbon cut , but this was odd little cubes of differing thickness.
Last time I smoked this tobacco I was 24, and I likely stuffed it in, added more, pushed it down with my thumb and lit up, and puffed like hell, looking for that wonderful cherry experience ...I cooked my mouth, and gave most of the pouch to my barber.
This time, with dryer tobacco, and an older dryer pipe smoker, I poured the little cubes into my Boswell, tapped the side of the pipe to settle the tobacco, added a tiny bit more, smoothed it out with my pipe nail and toasted the top with my bic...I took a good wiff, and found some cherry aroma, but very light, the wife, standing a few feet away, sed it had a good cherry aroma.
Once fully lit, I found more of a cherry pitt, cherry bark flavor than a fruit flavor, like if you made a tea from the bark...Back in the day, some called it a chemical taste, but I get Burley with side note of cherry pitts, like the old Middleton Apple was a good burley with an essence that could have come from a Winesap apple.
One thing that i still got was the heat...like the young man of 24, I got a tad carried away, but my tastebuds sent a S.O.S. to my brain , before I did any real damage.
I'm finishing it off now, very slowly , and it's been a nice trip back, and along with the Carter Hall, a very fine gift!
