On the most recent pipesmag podcast, Brian spoke about how Jiminks befriended the Lt. Governor of North Carolina at the Raleigh pipe show and from the impression that I got, Jimbo turned him into a pipe smoker. Atta Boy, Jim! that's the LT. Governor, Jim looks more surly. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lieutenant_Governor_of_North_Carolina

Thank you, fellas. There is a great story behind it, but it's really too lengthy to type it all. Basil Meadows made a pipe for the Lt. Governor, and the man then bought one from Basil for his son. I spent a bit of time walking around with the Lt. Gov., discussing pipes and tobaccos, and he was very surprised to find Basil had crafted a pipe for him. We spent some time outside the building as I showed him how to pack, tamp, light, and puff his newly acquired pipe. I'll be seeing him again in a week and a half, and will take him more samples to try as he's deciding on what tobaccos interest him. Left to right: Basil Meadows (a great pipe carver and friend), Lt. Governor Dan Forest, me, and the L.G.'s son, Jake.

Yesterday, I spoke with the Lt. Governor and two of his staffers, including his legal counsel, about the FDA. They asked me to give them the pertinent information about this, and they said they'd see what they could do.

I had less than an receptive ear with my local politicians...both senators never replied to my letter and my rep sent a position statement on overregulation in general. Rick's article has some good talking points: reason.com/archives/2016/12/13/the-fdas-unauthorized-war-on-pipes-and-c

Ask the esteemed lt. governor about rights for gays and transgendered. Just curious as to his thought.

Really grinds my gears that when talking about smoking, everything merely talks about cigarette smoking and assumes that's all that smoking means. Pipe smoking needs to rise up, I surely don't care if all cigarette production stops as long as we have a pipe revival. Keep at it, Jim.
