Tobacco is now over £20 ($25) per 50g tin here in the UK. I think it's time for me to stop buying here. I'll be in Lanzarote in the summer, hopefully, so I may need to stock up there instead.
I might have enough to do me now anyway, to be fair. One tin a month fairly adds up over time.

How much can you bring back without having to pay duty?

Had to look up Lanzarote. Apparently it's one of the Canary Islands, 80 miles west of Morocco. It's 326 sq mi and belongs to Spain. The Indian shops are well known for selling fake tobacco, so you should buy from supermarkets or the airport. Fake tobacco?

I believe you can buy 250g per person.

Clearly time for some Republican smugglers.

That's a shame, LL. Wish I had a silver lining to point out.

Tins in the US are now above what I'm willing to pay. I've got enough bulk to last 40+ years at my current usage so I'm calling it quits as well.

I would happily drop a load of tobacco on Padre’s porch if I had the ability to do so without it all being confiscated or outrageous duties applied.
It is all so ridiculous, but humans seem to like allowing tyrants to make the rules in which to be governed by.

Will echo same. At my now creaky getting age, 6lbs unopened seems about fair

I appreciate the sentiment, Charlie, but chances of any tobacco getting here is slim. As simnettpratt wrote, 250g per person is the customs limit, so that gives me 10 tins that I can bring back between myself and my wife (if I so desire) when I'm out in Lanzarote. I'll prob won't pick up that many. 50g is around £8 over there. I bought 5 pouches of Amphora original when I was there last year. Good thing about the Canary Islands is they are duty free countries, so stuff like this is really cheap compared to back home. I've a 25L tub filled with tins of tobacco, so I should be good for a day or two yet - especially since I only smoke a pipe, on average, about 3-4 times a month.

I've sent tobacco numerous times to a doctor friend in Scotland, but I couldn't at all say whether your place is stricter in a sense. We don't send all that much, but some bags of tobacco never have trouble getting there. Tins, etc. but it's usually never exceeding 150 grams or so.

LL, at least you have the Canaries to fall back on. Prices are nowhere near that bad here in the states (yet), but many of the limited releases here have the prices kicked up on them to almost that level. For mr, I have enough tobacco cellared that I just have no reasonable excuse to buy more, no matter how catchy the blend. Glad you have a bunch in the bin, though.

My maternal grandfather's family came from the Canary Islands many, many, moons ago. Say hi to my relatives Padre!
